14 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | APRIL 2018 | Social Committee We welcome a new volunteer for the Social Committee, Barbra Balser, who brings her talents and enthusiasm to our group. Our volunteers have been busy planning and providing activities for your enjoyment. We're sure you enjoyed the British Invasion musical event on March 20. Get your tickets for the next musical event held on Tues., April 24, The Killer Dueling Pianos. This one will be indoors in the Ballroom. We have lots of special programs and entertainment planned for you, so don't miss out. One not to be missed is A Taste of Elegance on Sun., May 6. Proceeds will be given to two charities. June 9 will be the annual Tribute Concert on the Plaza. Watch the Herald and Louise's notes and emails for upcoming unforgettable activities. You could be busy every day, but isn't it wonderful! The Fourth of July committee is busy working on another fun event for our community. Anyone interested in joining this committee please contact Mary Swinney at (714) 328-6426 or oohmerr@yahoo. com. We will need many helpers on the Fourth! ~ Joan Voigt Last month at the Mardi Gras event put on by the Social Committee, there were many, many "new faces." If you are new (a subjective and relative term) to Four Seasons — Welcome! The Emergency Preparedness Committee (EPC) is a standing committee sponsored by the Board of Directors, and charged with establishing resources and procedures that would be critical to responding in an orderly manner to an emergency event. We in turn sponsor the Street Captains organization. Don't let the military rank in this group's name put you off. It is similar to the Neighborhood Watch term "Block Captains" for those who are willing to serve our community through being aware of the needs and situations of their neighbors. Please consider attending this month's Street Captains Meeting, and possibly becoming a Street Captain for your block, or area! Please check the calendar for meeting days and times (generally the last Monday of the month at 10:30 am in the Multipurpose Card Room). April's Tip: Be sure to keep your vehicle fuel filled to at least half full in case there is a major emergency or extended power outage. The last place you will want to be is in a long gas line (Remember the 70s?!) Again, please update your Roving Patrol number to (951) 390-0011 and set it up for speed-dial if you have that feature. This is especially important if you are a walking enthusiast or living alone. Don't be caught unprepared if a personal emergency or suspicious activity occurs! Last month the Street Captains Meeting was focused on how to respond to various types of possible events and what to do in "The First Four Hours" of a major emergency. This period is critical to the saving of lives and preservation of property. Have you really thought about this? What can you do to prepare for this? How would you respond? If you have exceptional health or assistance needs, how would you get it? I am reminded of this when I think of our military and first responders, whenever and wherever they are. I also think about the many veterans and retirees of these services who are our neighbors here, as well as their family members, and those who did not serve directly. I want to paraphrase a slogan from World War II, "They also serve who are prepared to assist those who do stand ready to protect us." ~ Bob Hagen, EPC Chairman Emergency Preparedness Committee Facilities Committee The new storage building located on the site of the old horseshoe pits is now finished. We have outfitted the building with steel shelving and moved the various committees and clubs items from the Ballroom storeroom into the new building. The new wall unit in the Ballroom contains all the Bistro Committee items used for major events. This allows all the tables and chairs to be put back in the storeroom as originally designed. Our next significant project is the annual slurry sealing of a section of the streets in the community. The location of this years sealing, repairs and re-striping is Four Seasons Blvd and World Cup Ave along with their respective vehicle gate areas. As soon as the exact dates are known everyone will be notified. PLEASE do not drive on the fresh slurry for 24 hours. We have started initial planning on the long-term project of replacing the carpet and wood dance floor in the Ballroom. With the replacing of both the carpet and dance floor, we hope to be able to increase the size of the dance floor from the current 648 sq ft to 957 sq ft. Two of the TV monitors for the treadmills in the Fitness Center have had to be replaced. This was a result of a resident removing the "aux" connection to allow listening to the TV without headphones. Once the "aux" wire is removed it cannot be repaired and the monitor itself requires replacement. Please do not remove wires from the TV monitors. The last vacancy on the Facilities Committee has been filled. We welcome Cheryle Patterson to our group and look forward to her contribution.
