48 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | MAY 2018 Billiards for Fun We have a great group of really nice people who enjoy the competitiveness and challenge of playing billiards. Many thanks and kudos to Dave Martin and Pete Antoine for their leadership in the morning and afternoon sessions respectively. There's always lots of laughter and camaraderie during the competitive play, as the winners get to rotate tables, with the goal of ending up on Table 1 at the end of the session. On May 22 we will hold our next quarterly tournament, which is always a challenge and lots of fun. The first and second place winning teams have their names engraved on the BFFG plaque ~ always a tremendous honor. Each player must have played on any Tuesday session three different weeks in the prior three months of the tournament date. As the players increase in their proficiency, the competition increases exponentially, and it's actually kinda scary how very proficient these players are becoming! On July 3 we will hold our yearly "July 4" tournament. Players will sign up and place themselves in the Red category ("experienced"), the White category ("intermediate") or the Blue category ("still- learning-the-game"). Dave and Pete will determine if the players signed up for the correct group, so there won't be any "sandbagging." The first and second place winners of each category will receive a trophy at the July 4 picnic in the ballroom. If you are interested in dusting off your pool cue and/or showing off your prowess, come by the Billiards Room any Tuesday to play in one of the two sessions: 11 am to 1 pm or 1 to 3 pm. Hope to see you soon! ~ Eileen Gilbert-Antoine There were so many players entered into the 8-Ball in-house tournament this month that time ran out as the lodge closed for the day. We had to extend the finals into a second evening the following week. Kenny Payne was undefeated during regular play but the first evening ended with Kenny Payne and Ray Windhorn tied with one loss each. The final game on the second evening had Kenny down to his last ball, but when Ray took over he clenched the title by running out the table. Congratulations Ray Windhorn the 8-Ball monthly champion! The 9-Ball in-house tournament brought eight players to the contest. Joe Aviles, the 8-Ball Club senior member, cut through the herd like a hot knife through butter. During regular play not only did he win four games in a row but he beat Dewey Allen to send Dewey down to the loser's bracket. Dewey fought his way back from the loser's column to face Joe in the final match. Joe won game one of the finals to remain undefeated on that day and secure the 9-Ball championship for the month. Congratulations to Joe! The 8-Ball club meets in the evenings from 6:30 to 9 pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, if that time works out for you come on down and meet us and explore joining the club.
