56 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | MAY 2018 Tennis Club "The rain is famous for falling on the just and the unjust alike, but if I had the management of such affairs I would rain softly and sweetly on the just, but if I caught a sample of the unjust out doors I would drown him." (Mark Twain) So, when it rained on the March Saturday for which tennis aficionados from Four Seasons and Sun Lakes gathered at The Courts for the first-ever interclub tournament and BBQ, in order to protect the unjust, we cancelled the outdoor tennis and hung around playing table tennis and socializing, until it was time to fire up the barbecues and have a burger and hot dog lunch. For our Ping Pong club colleagues who graciously gave up their Saturday play time so that we could have this tennis event, we appreciated the irony that we ended up playing your game. Alex let us know that the table tennis tables were top quality equipment, so we were careful and respectful of them, including putting them away before we started eating. A high point of the revised activities was the presence and presents of the Tennis Club's revered Ambassadors, Mickey and Howard Nelson. With his still-sharp humor and wit, Howard conducted another one of his (in)famous prize drawings, including a much coveted fish wind chime. Now who could resist a resonant, mackerel-shaped wind chime in lovely "Blowmont?" With the likelihood that the March Miracle precipitation is fully in the past, we have rescheduled our interclub invitational tennis and BBQ for May 12. Information and sign-up details will have been provided to club members by email. If your laundry and other chores are done, come on out and use the sumptuous, shade-covered grandstands to watch our club-combined teams play for fun. Our regular Play Days are scheduled for the last Saturday of every month. We begin at 9 am and play for about two hours. Players are matched up randomly and then switch after each 20-25 minute round of play. Play Days are open to all residents of Four Seasons Beaumont. No reservations required – just come on out and join in. To assist those interested in learning or recovering their tennis skills, the club is providing "newbie" practice/lessons at 10 am on every Saturday that is not a Play Day or interclub event. Led by patient, just, and knowledgeable club players, this is a physically and emotionally safe opportunity to hone one's racquet proficiency. ~ Steve Hovey Larry Z wins a can of balls Howard Nelson and Chuck Beckman A lucky winner!
