48 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | MAY 2018 | Yahoo! We have returned. The Sun Lakes RV club has made it safely home from their long and tedious trip to that far far away place called Yuma, Arizona. For all you RV owners who didn't go or were not able to join us, you missed another great rally. Just to refresh your memory, in this rally we visited a wonderful RV resort called Fortuna De Oro RV Resort. It is located right next to Highway 8 just east of downtown. The first thing that caught my attention, which really doesn't take much, was the size of this resort. This resort had 1,205 sites. Some of these sites had small homes, or what could be called "fancy cabins" that you could purchase for around $30,000 or so. It is my understanding that you lease the land. Most spots were for RVs. Each site was a lot bigger than sites I am used to. You parked your RV on one side of your cement pad and your vehicle on the other. They had a resort bulletin that listed daily activities that made our list here at home look short. It included Karaoke each afternoon with $2 drinks at a pool area twice the size of our main pool. Now doesn't that just make you want to run over to our RV lot, get in your RV and drive as fast as you can to this resort? Too late. It's my understanding that most of it is closing for the summer. So what did we all do while we were there? Well we started out on Monday with our Game Day by playing bocce ball and bean bag baseball. With very HUMBLE MODESTY, yours truly ended up on the winning team in both sports. As you can see by the pictures, the concentration level for the players was high. Tuesday and Thursday were free days with Wednesday being the golf tournament. We always ended our rally with the awards dinner on Thursday evening. The picture of the gentlemen sitting in the chair you all know is our one and only Ken Hurley, this rally's Trail Boss. After watching him in action this week, I now am calling him our "Energizer Bunny." When he puts in his batteries each morning, all I can say is just don't get in his way. However, at the same time, lots of thanks need to be given to the rest of the committee (Don and Brenda Day and my lovely wife Nancy) who worked hard.
