| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | MAY 2018 | 69 Friends we will miss We want to remember your loved ones in the "Friends We Will Miss" section, above, but we need your help. Please be sure to get us the information about their passing. Turn in any obituaries to the Main Clubhouse reception desk or send them electronically to SunLakesNews@ yahoo.com. Shirley Wormald began her next journey on March 7, 2018. She will be meeting up with her loving husband Bob, who left ahead of her last April. For over 50 years they have mapped their adventures together, so we are sure Bob has been waiting for Shirley to join him. Shirley was a devoted wife, mother, in-law, grandmother, aunt, friend and neighbor. She began her life as Shirley Ann Podmore on July 22, 1930, and was raised in the Los Angeles area. She married Robert Wormald in 1956. Shirley attended USC while Bob went to UCLA. Needless to say, college football seasons were always a bit tumultuous. They had four children: Karen, Susan, Christine, and Robert. Shirley was actively involved in their lives as Camp Fire Girl leader, den mother, school room mom, and general cheerleader for their many activities. She was there when the grandchildren were born, supporting and encouraging exhausted young parents. Shirley and Bob moved to Sun Lakes in 1994, and watched their house being built. She was instrumental in organizing the Ladies Executive Golfers, (LEGS), as she was an avid golfer. They were involved in many bridge groups and contributed to the Sun Lakes Follies for years. They loved living in such a vibrant community filled with wonderful friends. Even though Shirley and Bob explored almost every continent of the world, their favorite vacation spot was in Hawaii, which is where their family will give them their final send off. They loved strolling the beaches and enjoying sunsets on the lanai sipping martinis. Shirley lives on in her children, grandchildren, and everyone who was inspired and touched by her love, dedication, sense of adventure, humor, and grace. We are blessed to have known her. Bon voyage.
