30 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JUNE 2018 | Records, records, records. That's what most of us would listen to a few years back. I believe many of us probably still have a few of those great oldies in our garage, closet or storage. It always amazed me then that what was played on radio stations rarely skipped. You may remember how fragile the format was. If the record player needle was accidentally dragged across the record, it damaged that section of the song forever. This happened a couple of times to some of my records and since I didn't have a whole lot of money to buy more or even replace that particular record, I would get used to the scratch. When that song came on the radio, it didn't sound right without the skip. Isn't that strange how we become conditioned to imperfections like that? Zooming back to modern times and now in the digital era of CDs and mp3 files, this is rarely an issue since today's music formats for playback are completely different. The world of nostalgia is not lost or relegated to only the songs on vinyl or sheet music from long ago. It is fast becoming of age in the digital world of mp3 files and more especially in the realm of Karaoke. Barb Miller, Rosie Ingalls and D.J. Blast bring it all back for you with Sun Lakes own "Goodtimes Karaoke" events. Most folks love to sing songs that bring back the good old days and more often than not you will find the songs you love to sing or listen to in D.J. Blast's Karaoke music library. D.J. Blast says, "We are always striving to update our music library so the folks who come out to our events don't have to rely on their own personal CDs." These gatherings are fun. You will enjoy dancing, singing, food and friendship. We always look forward to newcomers and you don't have to be a singer to have a good time. This month you will find Rosie Ingalls, Barb Miller & D.J. Blast in the South Clubhouse on Sat., June 9 and Fri., June 22. Both events start at 5:30 pm and end at 9 pm. We hope you can join us this June. As usual, we'll keep a mic on for you. Karaoke Group
