| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JUNE 2018 | 7
Starting in July, new stop signs will be installed in an attempt to encourage drivers to make
full and complete stops. There will be a five second mandatory stop time to ensure the car is
no longer in motion. To help driver's know when the five seconds are up, there will be a timer
just below the word "STOP." Should the driver move before the timer has reached five seconds,
a camera will record the driver's license plate and take a picture of the driver which will be
sent with a warning letter.
We don't want to send warning letters, however, so we have invested in other measures to
warn the driver there is time left on the five second stop. In addition to the digital timer below
the "STOP" there will be these helpful items:
1. A loudspeaker will count down: five, four, three, two, one, go.
2. A red light will flash accompanied by a loud, ear-piercing siren.
3. A spike strip will deploy when a car approaches and will retract at the five second mark.
We hope all these upgrades to our current stopping system will help drivers
obey the signs indicating when and for how long they should stop.
Despite all these precautions, however, we anticipate there may be
a few second offenses. In the case of a second offense, Francine the
Clown will be assigned to sit in your back seat loudly alerting you to
stop signs. She will also monitor your speed and nag you to slow down
or hurry up.
A third offense will trigger the Parrot Punishment,
meaning you will have to care for a parrot for a year.
This parrot will yell "STOP!" at random intervals at all
hours of the day and night. We hope it doesn't come to that.
