34 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | June 2018 | From the President – Tom Moore: It's time for the Hemet 4 Seasons Golf Club's "mid-term" report. As stated before the year began, our goal is to increase participation every week. To that end, we've revived a few of the past tried-and- true "acorns" during the first half of this year: a: In an attempt to create more of a social atmosphere, we have reinstated the random, computer-generated pairings for non-team events. b: Back by popular demand, we have arranged an "away" game at Menifee Lakes Golf Course, scheduled for the June 19. We have negotiated a tee-time of 8 am and green fees of $35 per player. We will be playing the "Lakes" course. c: In an effort to speed up play, we re- introduced the volunteer "Course Marshal" program twice last month, which resulted in approximately a 30-minute quicker pace of play. This position is perfect for golfers that are injured or don't happen to like a particular game, but still want to enjoy the "social" component of our club. We're also trying some new ideas, in the hopes of drawing more weekly players: a: We have a "Suggestion Box" available every week for all members to use to input their likes, dislikes, and ideas for the board to consider (we really DO read and discuss all your ideas and suggestions!) b: We tried a "no handicap" bracket in place of the "A" flight for our President's Cup Tournament and adjusted all other flights to accommodate this change. c: As of May 1, we have instituted a "points" system, in which players will receive five points for each week they play, plus points will be awarded for the first five finishing places in each bracket. If for some reason you cannot play, you still have the opportunity to receive 10 points for volunteering as a course marshal. The top six players with the most points will be awarded a CA$H pay-out at the end of the year as follows: 1st place $100, 2nd place $80, 3rd place $70, 4th place $60, 5th place $50, and 6th place $40. d: For the first two weeks of June we will provide "Report Cards" at the sign-up desk for you to use to grade the performance of your board. Complete only ONE form per golfer and, PLEASE be kind! Dates to remember: June 12 - Club BBQ, on the Plaza at The Lodge, cost is $7. June 19 - Away game, Menifee Lakes, tee time 8 am, green fees $35. June 26 - General meeting, golf clubhouse, immediately after golf. Until next time, remember… golf is FUN (damn it!) So, come on out and enjoy the fun and camaraderie every Tuesday. The weather is finally great. If you have any questions please contact Elliot Yaeger, (951) 223-3735 or email: ey1611@gmail.com From the Rules Chair – Tom Johnson: The new rules of golf which will become effective January 1, 2019 have been finalized. New books of the Rules of Golf are expected to be ready in September. The club will reach out when the new books are available and offer help in understanding the new rules. In the meantime, there are a number of resources at www.USGA.org to help you learn about the new rules. Take the time to learn about the new rules so that you will be ready next year. From the Handicap Chair – Melody Lewis: Posting Scores The 4 Seasons Golf Club plays weekly as a group and each member is to post their own ESC score as soon as practical after completion of their round. You can post at the course or at home on your phone or computer using the GHIN website. Scores need to be posted based on Eastern time, meaning they need to be in prior to 9 pm Pacific on the 14th of the month and the last day of the month. This is when the "handicap index cycles." Posting your scores allows not only for peer review but is a requirement of the SGCA. Most of our membership post their scores in a timely manner, however, we do have some members that habitually do not post. Those members may receive an email from me reminding them to post their scores. As Handicap Chair I have the authority to post a penalty score for non- posters, although personally, I do not want to go there. Bottom line, please post your ESC score ASAP following your round. Also, some members are posting scores that are actually higher than they need to post. I've included the ESC chart. Find your course handicap and determine the max score you can post on any one hole. Course Handicap Maximum Number 9 or less Double Bogey 10-19 7 20-29 8 30-39 9 40 and above 10 Please visit Section 4-3 of the USGA Handicap System manual for further reference.
