Summer greetings from the Rules & Regulations Committee. The summer solstice occurs in June and many cultures, both ancient and contemporary, traditionally hold yearly celebrations to mark the solstice and midsummer. For example, in ancient Viking culture, midsummer was a crucial time of the year to discuss legal matters and resolve disputes. Not to say that the Rules & Regulations Committee is comprised of Vikings but we did discuss legal matters and made some changes at our last meeting. A new chairperson was appointed. Barbara Miller will now fill that role and we know that her experience will be well utilized. We wish to thank Cheri Howard who served as chairperson for more than a year. She is now our secretary and Roman Dominguez will continue as co-chairperson. In addition to the work of the committee, we had a guest speaker. Irve Sturner, representing the Tennis Club Executive Committee, discussed suggested wording for signs at the tennis courts at the Courts. Barbara Miller will meet with the Tennis Club Committee members to formalize the wording of the signs. We also discussed changes to our CC&Rs regarding elections. Eric Zarr advised that there is a new civil code for HOA elections. Under this code, if the number of candidates for office does not exceed the number of vacant seats, an election will not be mandatory. This is what is termed an "uncontested election." The committee voted to adopt this new code and Barbara Miller will prepare and submit a proposal to the Board of Directors. The Rules & Regulations Committee would like to know the concerns of our fellow Four Seasons at Beaumont residents. We are planning to attend Board of Directors meetings, new homeowners meetings and the monthly "Meet with John." We still have a few openings on the committee and want to encourage interested residents to attend our meetings. For midsummer, we probably won't celebrate by dancing around a maypole or wearing garlands of flowers but we can celebrate our wonderful community by following the rules that make it more pleasant for all of us who are fortunate enough to live here. ~ Margie Chadburn Rules & Regulations committee FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JULY 2018 21 FUN FACTS ABOUT THE ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW COMMITTEE • We help homeowners match their ideas and plans with the community guidelines • We help protect home values in our community • We meet lots of our neighbors and make new friends • We see lots of fun and interesting landscapes and improvements • We meet landscape contractors and learn about new products and concepts • We are the only committee required by the CC&Rs • Our meetings are open to all residents • We have fun • We meet the first and third Wednesday of each month at 8:30 am in the RCN Conference Room • We are looking for two new members – no particular experience needed ~ Steve Cooley Architectural review Committee
