40 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JULY 2018 Amphitheater Summer is upon us and what could be more welcome after a warm day than sitting under the stars listening to some great music. Our concert for July showcases two musicians - John Carey and Theo Coakley. These two talents go by the name of "The Smooth Brothers." And are they ever! During the 20 years they have been a team, they have developed and embraced a wide diversity of musical styles. Motown, Jazz, Soul, Reggae, Blues, and Classic Standards will all be heard in our Amphitheater! The concert begins at 7 pm at the Amphitheater, located on the east side of the lawn behind the Lodge. On the day of the concert, the sound crew works in the early morning hours to install and then test both the lighting and sound systems. You are welcome to place your chairs in the Amphitheater after 10 am. (Remember, spreading a blanket does not reserve your space.) As the sun goes down, it can become quite cool so a wrap might be needed. You are welcome to bring a beverage of your choice which needs to be in a non-glass container. Be ready to swing and sway and dance to some great music. See you at the concert! ~ Doris SanFilippo There is a lot of activity going on in the Performing Arts Club right now. We hope to get you out of your chairs and come help support the next two "free" shows we have coming up in August and September. Auditions for the Love & Marriage II took place at the end of June. The show will be Friday, Sept. 28 and Saturday, Sept. 29. We will hold auditions for our next installment of the Radio Shows on Wed., July 11, from 6 to 8 pm, in the RCN3 building. There are going to be two old- time comedy shows with several characters each. No memorization needed. We read directly from our scripts. This year we are going to incorporate acting lessons into our rehearsals. So, if you think you might want to try your hand at acting, this is the easiest way to get started. The Radio Shows will be presented on Saturday, Aug. 25. You don't need to be a member of the Performing Arts Club to audition. However, once you participate in one of our shows, you automatically become one. We have monthly meetings on the fourth Tuesday of every month at 4 pm, but attendance is not mandatory. She shone in public school, and was offered a scholarship to a prestigious boarding school where she excelled. It was this education that helped her advance in her professional life. Cathy was definitely a "mover & shaker" doing things that others merely dream about. With over 50 years of experience with non-profit organizations, she worked for the United Nations, was a 17-year board member of the YWCA and had 25 years as a board member of USC's Libraries. She was a Chairperson for USC's major fundraising and was appointed by Mayor Bradley to the group that integrated the LA Unified School District. Cathy Goldsmith considers moving to Four Seasons at Beaumont one of the best decisions she and her husband, Bob, made. Sadly, he was ill when they moved here and in 2016, after celebrating their 56th anniversary, Bob passed away. Cathy now needed to make some decisions on how to proceed with her life. She thought back to her childhood when she started singing, with her first performance at just five years old. That was followed with many years of voice lessons and more performances. Music filled her life and Cathy seriously considered turning professional, but chose a business career instead. It wasn't a difficult decision to join our choir, the Four Seasons Singers. Cathy also chose to actively join the ever-growing Performing Arts Club (PAC). Through these groups, she found welcoming, supportive, fun and creative people. Now the Chairperson of PAC, Cathy's goal is to bring more organization and structure, while freeing the creative members to do what they're good at. She would like to emphasize the need for more volunteers, not just for the creative end, but also in logistics, stage hands, prop designs, and management. ~ Teri Meyers-Kelman
