60 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JULY 2018
We recently decided to hike Indian
Canyons, a nature preserve in Palm Springs.
The day was picture perfect for a hike. It
was Goldilocks weather — not too hot, not
too cold, just right.
Upon arrival we took the first right to
the Andreas Trail with its magnificent palm
trees and watercourse. The one downside
was the large number of tourists. Being of a
younger generation, they were a bit faster so
we found ourselves frequently stopping to
allow them to pass.
We hiked along the watercourse up
to the fence at the head of the canyon
and back along the opposite bank. We
stopped several times to admire the many
unusual and rugged rock formations and to
contemplate the millenniums of history and
changes they have seen — from seabed to
today's desert environment.
Following the hike we had a terrific
lunch in downtown Palm Springs, the
perfect end to a great morning in the
desert with its very different yet enjoyable
landscape. There are many trails on the
nature preserve so there are many options
to try — some rugged and some gentle —
depending on one's ability and preference.
