44 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JULY 2018 | Summer has arrived for Luau's! Makua Hula Dancers had a very busy June month. We are also rehearsing for Evelyn Hawkins Show July 13 and 14. The Wine Club at Solera in Beaumont invited the Makua Hula Dancers to perform for an evening at their Main Clubhouse Stage Area. Makua Hula entertained and danced at the North Clubhouse for The Young at Hearts Club evening luau and The Lakeside Condos had an evening Luau in their pool area. Come join us, if just to exercise! We have a fun group and offer free dance instructions on Wednesdays from 10 to noon at the North Clubhouse and Saturdays 8 to 10 am at the Main Clubhouse. If you would like to have the Makua Hula Hawaiian Dancers perform at your club, Private Party or for Luau Entertainment, please call Perla Williams at 467-8339 or Olga Marquette at 846-3579. Makua Hula Dinner Dance Club It's that time of year again… membership renewal! This coming year we have been bumped from a couple of our regular dates by the Recreation Department, and the Board has reviewed our attendance records and decided to not replace the dates we lost. The club will maintain a nine month schedule for the 2018/2019 year and membership will be reduced to $45 pp. This reduced membership results in a cost of only $5 per outing to cover the DJs and bands. (That's a pretty good deal!) We are also working to reduce cost by employing DJs for the coming year except for our two formal events in December and February. Membership forms are available on our website and should be submitted with your checks prior to Aug. 1 either to Carla with your monthly meal choice or to Pat Rothenberger at 4833 Rolling Hills Avenue. It would be most appreciated if you would submit your membership in a timely manner which will allow the Board to finalize our budget for the new year, and please write separate checks for membership and monthly attendance/meal cost. A detailed list of dates and musical entertainment will be provided in the coming months. The July dance will be held Sat., July 21. Dinner is at 6 pm with the doors opening at 5:30 pm for socializing. Music will be provided by a favorite, One-2-Many, and meal choices are as follows: everyone receives fresh fruit and berries on a lettuce leaf along with rolls and butter. Entrée choices are: 1) Large shrimp and Crab Louie Salad $23; 2) Tri-tip topped with caramelized onions w/mashed potatoes $23.75; 3) Gnocchi w/spinach and pine nuts and chef 's choice veggies $23.50. We'll top off the meal with apple pie. Sign ups for the evening are from July 1 to July 12 and should be dropped in the box at 782 Torrey Pines Road. Please remember to include your table request with your checks. Remember to call Carla at 797-3506 before 3 pm on the day of the dance if you have signed up and are unable to attend so she can arrange for you to pick up your meal to enjoy at home. Dress for the evening is casual, so come on out, enjoy a great meal, and join in a fun evening with your friends.
