| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JULY 2018 | 53 Do you enjoy playing the billiard game of 8 Ball? If you do, come join us. All Sun Lakes residents are welcome to practice with us Mondays thru Saturdays, except for Thursday which is league play. We normally draw for partners at noon, then play until 2 pm or so. There is no cost to join our group. However, if you elect to join a team, there is a $15 competition fee per three- month season. Eight teams compete every Thursday; four teams at 9 am and the other four at 1 pm in our Main Clubhouse Billiards Room. For a fun afternoon of friendly one-on-one competition, come watch us play. For further information, please contact Steve Brown, 643-9880 (stvdeb@gmail.com). We're well into the Summer Tournament, with 64 teams bravely dealing with So Cal's sometimes steamy weather. The good thing is, we don't begin play until 5 pm, when the sun is behind the big tree next to Court 3! Kudos to all those teams that signed up to play! Our Spring Tournament was shortened by work on the courts and further limited by two rain-out days, but the play-offs were fun and lots of bocce enthusiasts joined in to root on the competing teams. The B League winners were Ralph Giffin, Kris Wallace, Iggy Krogsund, and Dan Senchy. They didn't lose a game the entire season, short as it was! A League winners were Lyle and Karen Crotteau, Chuck and Joan Glenn. Well done! Finally, the AA League winners were Dalene Tappata, Maggie Kline, Ray and Betsy Messerer, who were playing for Mitzi Ferguson and Carl Williams. Congrats! This Tournament will end the week of Aug. 20, with playoffs on Aug. 27 and 28. We're finally back on our normal schedule, which seems to be a mystery to many of our members. Normally, the Winter Tournament is seven weeks long, with the three following tournaments ten weeks long. That is if the calendar doesn't mess us up! There is, by the way, a calendar for the bocce year posted on the backside of the bocce cabinet. Take a look! Also posted on the backside of the bulletin board are all the phone numbers of the referees, board members and team members, so if you need to call to remind someone where they're supposed to be, trot on over and make the call. Come out, enjoy our balmy breezes, and some competitive bocce matches! Questions, call Dutch, 845-0392. Friends of Bocce
