chorale mystery theater & more drama club CHORALE SPRING PRACTICE: Members and guests enjoyed a celebratory dinner last month. The evening was highlighted with outstanding entertainment by fellow members. It was a pleasant time to relax after a full schedule of practice sessions since last August preparing for three outstanding Holiday Concerts. Since this is not a group to rest on their laurels, it was announced Spring Concert practices will begin Mon., Jan. 14. Members will pick up their music packets, prepared by Tony Read and her committee. $15 is due at that time with any checks made out to Sun Lakes Chorale. Please note: Music packet pick up Mon., Jan. 14, in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room from 8:30 am. Bring a $15 check made out to SL Chorale. First practice in Ballroom at 9:30 am promptly Regretfully, our cherished pianist, Peggy Gust, will be unable to continue performing that strenuous task. Instead, she will rejoin friends in the Alto section. In her place Lisa Yarbrough will return as our Accompanist. Lisa is a very ne local pianist and Chorale members look forward to working with her once again. Please watch for upcoming concert dates to be announced in the Lifestyles Magazine. In addition to all of the benets of being a part of one of the best pure entertainment shows during the year and our yearly 1st of June staged plays, our members reap quite a few freebie benets during the year. One of those benets was enjoyed by a great many of our members at our annual Christmas Party. Each member enjoyed a lively party that included a great meal and a great assortment of regular and adult beverages at no extra cost. This event and similar Cast Party events are perks to our members that love to participate in putting on a great show, all for a mere $10 pp (or $15 per couple) yearly membership fee. This same group of thespians and entertainers are gearing up for our end of February, rst of March blockbuster,Thats Entertainment. $8 Reserved Table tickets will go on sale in the Main Clubhouse Lobby on Feb. 11, Monday through Friday from 10 am to 2 pm. HAPPY NEW YEAR! We are looking forward to a fantastic new year of productions, meetings, social gatherings and eld trips. Our fall production of Night of January 16th was a great success and the club was able to donate over $2780 to the recovery fund for Ronan Nelson, paralyzed in a rugby accident in April of 2012. He is making progress and every dollar donated goes for rehabilitative treatment which is so vital to his future. In November we had another successful Readers Theatre production which brought back the hilarious radio presentation of The Bickersons, that 1940s show starring Frances Langford and Don Ameche. For future Readers Theatre productions we will be adding a matinee performance to enable us to entertain more people. Our Spring production of Nora Ephrons Love, Loss and What I Wore, just released for amateur groups, is already in progress with the cast chosen two years ago and then cancelled due to rights problems. Now its a go and will be so much fun to produce and see the rst weekend in April. Once again we encourage anyone with a dramatic bent to come to our business meeting the rst Thursday of each month at 1 pm in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. New members are always welcome and there are opportunities to work both on stage and off in various duties such as Stage Manager, Properties Manager, Dressers, Makeup artists, House Manager, ushers and set up persons. For more information please call Rose Hermanson at 769-9810. paisano club We had a wonderful Christmas dinnerdance, with music by Jan Sutherlands band. As mentioned before, Jan and Dee will share secretary duties. Many fun events are planned for the coming year, beginning with an hors dourvre party on Jan. 4. We invite new members to join in the fun. library advisory committee Happy New Year! Lets take the time after our hectic, busy holiday season to just sit back and relax and enjoy one of the many books available in our libraries. Our volunteers were treated to a catered luncheon last month to recognize them for their hard work and effort during the past year. If you would like to join this great group of volunteers, please call Peggy Inman at 845-8609. We are also bidding goodbye to our Chairman, Socorro Castellano. Thank you, Socorro, for all your enthusiasm and dedication for the past three years. Well miss you. Please continue to remember us with your book donations. We are especially in need of large print and western books. If you have a large number of books to donate, please contact Ann Reese at 845-3775. That way we can notify our volunteers so theyre not too overwhelmed! Our book for this month is The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey. In this stunning debut, Ivey has created a story that is at once a fantastical folk tale and a gritty saga of 1920s Alaska. Jack and Mabel, a childless couple in their 50s, have moved to this harsh landscape to escape a long-ago trauma the stillbirth of their baby. One day, they build a snow girl in their yard, the next morning its gone. When they glimpse a wild looking girl in the woods near their home, neither is sure whether shes real or conjured from their cabin-fevered imagainations. Even as it appears that the girl is real, and Jack and Mabel grow to love her as a daughter, an air of other-worldliness clings to her (her story echoes a Russian fairy tale Mabel loved as a child). Written with a bred-in-thebone feel for the Alaskan wilderness (Iveys a lifelong resident), The Snow Child will keep you in suspense until the last syllable. computer club All Sun Lakers are welcome to attend our meetings on the rst and third Thursdays of the month at 1 pm in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room.
