from the treasurer By John Clark, Master Board Treasurer OPERATIONS SUMMARY: With one month to go in the year the Association is $314,485 better than the nancial plan for 2012 projected. This is slightly less ($1,681) than last months $316,166. December will be an interesting month with the high level of activity and high expectations for a good month nancially and otherwise. NON-OPERATIONS: November was a big month for property transfers with twenty being recorded. The total for the year is now 155 and back to averaging slightly over 14 per month. HOA: November, a 30 day month, managed to squeeze in ve pay days resulting in negative labor variances in most operations. The Recreation Department booked almost $13,000 in 4 | sun lakes lifestyles | january 2013 | community news income for the month for excursions and special events. The operation charges just enough to cover costs and the associated costs will be recorded in December. GOLF: The golf operation had a good month as far as their contribution to the Associations bottom line is concerned. While revenue returned to the pattern of earlier months at less than budgeted, expenses were also down by more than enough to offset the drop in revenue. Irrigation water and power were $43,000 under budget for the month and there is a reasonable chance this expense will come in on target by year end. The nal purchase of fertilizer for this year was made resulting in that expense category being over budget for the month by $12,400; however it is on target for the year. Labor costs also served to offset part of the irrigation savings. The net result was that the operation contributed a positive $14,224 in the month to the Associations bottom line. RESTAURANT & LOUNGE: One of the most signicant items about the R/L operation so far this year is that the cost of food as a percent of sales has been coming in at less than planned, a benet to all of us. Food costs had been expected to rise due to a number of factors. Tighter controls on purchases and inventory and other food management savings contributed. Also, the anticipated rise in food costs has not been as severe as originally feared. Revenue for the month was less than expected. The net impact to the bottom line for the month was a negative $3,800. OPS CONTINGENCY FUNDS: The total for these funds is now $10,004,420 an increase of $66,663 from last month. Major expenditures during the month included the ongoing mailbox replacement program ($17,000); adding air conditioning to the Atrium meeting room and replacing pool heaters ($19,000); pool re-plastering, pool deck repair and refurbished deck furniture ($41,000).
