epap animal rescue Due to an emergency (leaking hot water heater), our speaker Annie Burdick, who was going to speak on turtles, postponed it to our January meeting. We had two visitors from the Four Seasons community, Kathy Barnette and Bernadette Chance, who talked to us about the ways they are developing their animal rescue. We also had two visitors from the animal kingdom (dogs) that were found in Sun Lakes and looking for a foster home or a forever home. We were able to use our new kennels for the rst time when two dogs, a chocolate lab and a Yorkie got loose. They were only in the cages for a short time as the owners were looking for them right away. Then two pit bulls decided to visit Sun Lakes from a ranch east of us. Luckily they were friendly as they visited us for two days. Our good friends at Beaumont Animal Control got a call about them and they were returned as well. Jane Manson gave us the good news that we did well with the Fall Craft Fair. Info., Helen Mattias, 797-0583. Can you believe it is the year 2013? I cant! It seems only yesterday I wondered if I would live to the 80s or 90s let alone beyond the year 2000. How time ies when you are having fun. When you look back over the past years, there are so many things to be thankful for. The place we live, our friends and neighbors, the lifestyle we enjoy, all come to mind. I would begin with the Delegates. What a wonderful bunch of volunteers, working for their neighbors. They are the communicators, the editors, the social directors for their districts. Without them, we would not know what is going on in our community nor would we have met so many people as we do at our social events. I am very fortunate being a part of their group and working with them for the benet of our people. If you want something done, or want some information, or want to know what to do in a certain situation, call your Delegate. Think back, would you have thought 5 or 10 or 20 years ago that you would live in a gated community with all of the amenities we enjoy? What more could we want to make our lives better? We can thank the original builder, Presley Construction, and the many Boards of Directors for organizing this complex and setting up the nancial foundation that we live by today. Beyond a doubt, we are one of the most solvent Senior Common-Interest Complexes in the country. It is a shame only a small percentage of our people use our courses, our pools, our clubhouses and restaurants, our tennis courts and the other amenities. ITS THE PEOPLE! That was a Presley sales slogan. After you have lived here for awhile, it dawns on you that the slogan is true. As you drive down the street, you see a few neighbors in front of their home gabbing, or they wave at you as you drive by. Go to the clubhouse, pool or anywhere else and someone will come up to you and start a conversation. Presley was right, ITS THE PEOPLE! As the year 2013 begins, lets make it even better. We always need more volunteers, more participation in our activities. If you have a neighbor who doesnt join in the district events, knock on their door and invite them to join you. Say HI to people you dont know and wave as the cars go by, thats the way we live at Sun Lakes. community news | sun lakes lifestyles | january 2013 | 7
