58 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | AUGUST 2018 | Sun Lakers at Canyon Lanes We are now in August and the weather is getting very hot. The alleys at Canyon Lanes are a good place to cool off. The bowling alley is always cool but some of our bowlers are really getting hot. Look at some of the season high scores. We have three teams tied for first. They are Pretenders (Howard Esterson, Frank Otten, Loren Pitz and Bruce Herwig); Four Play (Ken Smelker, Mitzi Taniguchi, Lawanda Roberson and Ray Roberson); Lightning Strikes (Beverly Bly, Dan Madrano, Patti Brickner and Richard Bly). Season high scores for the men are Andy Toro with High Scratch Series of 669, Joseph De Le Torre with High Scratch Game of 258, Richard Ming with High Handicap Series of 793 and Frank Otten with High Handicap Game of 304. Season High Scores for the women are: Bridjette Whaley with High Scratch Series of 533, Laura Irwin with High Scratch Game of 210, Kathy Duerr with High Handicap Series of 691 and Lawanda Roberson with High Handicap Game of 264. Winter bowling begins on Sept. 10, contact Teri at (760) 217-9656 No one ever got sunburned in a bowling alley. Sun Lakers III As of this writing we are more than half way through our summer league. We find the Almosts (Burt Garbell, Emil and Ida Nily, Paul Wojton) in first place. They're a wonderful, tough team to come up against. The last alley I bowled on tried to assist me by leaving a few pins out of the set up, however a team mate always spotted the error, did a reset and gave it a roll with the full setup. Hah, I said! Then the ten pin seems not to understand the need to fall down. If my game was only as hot as the weather. Thank God Canyon Lanes is air conditioned — my golf cart is not. Bowlers of all levels are encouraged to join a bowling league. Contact Greg Kent at (949) 678-5227 or Teri Comerford at (760) 217-9656.
