54 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | AUGUST 2018
It has been said that Pickleball players range widely in age and
interest but where they meet is in their passion for the sport and the
good natured camaraderie of their friends. When Ray Windhorn
decided to celebrate his 84th birthday on June 9, friends from
tennis, billiards and paddle tennis were invited, but Pickleball
people made sure the party was a party! At 84, Ray may be one
of our oldest members, but our youngest (and honorary) member
Taylor Spongberg explained Pickleball this way: "It brings together
people from all walks of life for a fun and active time!"
In other pickleball action, the early hours of June 30 found 35
men and women on the pickle ball courts eager to compete in our
Fourth of July tournament. Battling hard and long, six games for
men's and women's doubles and four games for mixed doubles,
winners were declared in the following categories and announced
on July 4.
Women's Doubles Group A: Kim Olsen and Julie Stayner (tie)
Women's doubles group B: Pickleball Nancy Barnaby
Men's doubles group A: Bruce Lewis
Men's doubles group B: Dave Thomason
Mixed doubles group A 1st place: LynnRae DuPree
Mixed doubles group A 2nd place: Rick Von Kleist
Mixed doubles group B, 1st Place: Mike Flowers and Julie Stayner
(tie)
That being said, with pickleball it's all about the people. Whether a
beginner or a trophy winner, pickleball people are eager to talk to each
other about pickleball, pets, parties and any other slice of life. It's all
about the people so come on out!
If you are new to the sport there will always be someone on the
courts to help you out and explain the rules, or contact Pickleball
Nancy Barnaby for specific times for instruction. See you on the
courts! ~ Julie Stayner
