10 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | OCTOBER 2018 By Jerry Monahan Jolene Cooley was appointed to the Four Seasons HOA Board of Directors in August by a vote of the current Board members. Claudine Diaz, who had been re-elected for a two-year term in April of 2018, resigned in order to spend more time in Colorado with her family. Jolene now will complete the two-year term that was made available by Claudine's resignation. Jolene's term will end in April of 2020. Her appointment to the Board of Directors, and her acceptance of the position, eliminated the need for a costly election. Jolene Cooley retired as a Financial Auditor with the Office of the Utah State Auditor. As a financial auditor, she supervised and performed numerous audits around the State of Utah, including most of the state's colleges and universities. She also audited most of the state's governmental units, including justice courts in many cities, towns, and counties. In her position, she discovered several frauds and was instrumental in prosecuting the persons responsible. She then implemented financial controls and best practices to prevent future losses. Earlier in her career Jolene worked as a bookkeeper and Personnel Manager for Woolworth's before going back to school and earning both a BA in Accounting and MBA from Westminster College. While she was in college she worked for a HOA, and did their financials for two years. Jolene and her husband of 48 years, Steve, have lived at the Four Seasons, Beaumont community since October of 2016. She and Steve have three children: two daughters and a son. They have four grandchildren who live a short distance from our community. Jolene said when she first saw Four Seasons, she realized how pretty the community was, and that it was close to both of their daughters and grandchildren. She said she and Steve had looked around for a retirement location in the Southern California area so they could be close to their family. Jolene said both she and Steve liked the possibility of coming to a community where they could get involved in committees and meet other residents. She is a member of the Ladies Putter group at Four Seasons and goes to the gym when she can find the time. She also goes to concerts and shows with her husband. She said while not working, some of her favorite activities are reading, traveling, and decorative painting. She has served on the Board of Directors for the different units of the Society of Decorative Painters. Jolene said that as we move toward build-out of the homes at Four Seasons, we will get a better picture of how much money we will have to spend. She believes it is important to budget items in order to control costs and maintain our HOA dues at the current level. Jolene, who has been on the Finance Committee for the past year and a half, said Finance has been working with the committees at Four Seasons to budget for items needed in the upcoming year. The committees have been meeting with Finance and presenting those projects and items they need so they can be reviewed, approved, and budgeted for the next fiscal year. Jolene said she looks forward to working with all the committees at Four Seasons, and to do what is best for all our residents. She said while she does enjoy being retired, she also enjoys being busy again because she has always been active and worked in challenging environments. Jolene, welcome to the Board of Directors, and thank you for stepping up and accepting the appointment serving our community as our Chief Financial Officer. Your education and experience clearly made you the right choice for this position. Jolene Cooley, Chief Financial Officer S P O T L I G H T O N "She believes it is important to budget items in order to control costs and maintain our HOA dues at the current level."
