60 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | OCTOBER 2018 | Friends we will miss Dorothy Elizabeth McDonald, 93, was called home to be with her Savior on July 24, 2018 after a three-year battle with cancer. Dorothy was born on January 21, 1925 to Sven and Beatrice Rydberg in Outlook, MT. She graduated from Montana State University with a degree in Home Economics and taught in Bend, OR before being awarded a scholarship to attend UCLA, where she received her master's degree in Early Childhood Education. On June 23, 1957, Dorothy married Gene McDonald, who survives. The couple lived in Tustin, CA before moving to Newberg, OR, Banning, CA, and Austin, TX. Dorothy's greatest joys were singing, playing the piano, tending to her beautiful gardens, spending time with her dog, Zoey, and reading. She loved traveling with her husband, including road trips with their RV and vacations on Balboa Island in Newport Bay. She also wrote and illustrated children's books based on stories from her life. Dorothy was known for her abundant joy, her love for Christ, her quiet strength, and her life motto: "Adventure is inconvenience viewed with the right attitude." Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents and her sister Marjorie. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Heidi (John) Holt and Bruce (Kimberly) McDonald, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Hercules "Herc" Ranieri a 29 year resident of Sun Lakes, passed away July 15, 2018 at 99 years. Herc was born on April 22, 1919 in Chicago. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Herc is survived by is loving wife of 49 years, Wanda, son Jeffrey Ranieri and grandchildren Jason, Joshua, Ashley, Christopher, Nicholas and Alexander. He was preceded in death by his parents James and Delphina Ranieri of Chicago; brother Delmo Ranieri of Chicago; sons Robert and James of Chicago. He enjoyed senior softball, golf and bowling. His smiling face and easy going nature will be missed by all who knew him.
