FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | NOVEMBER 2018 57 Fishing Club I lost a good fishing buddy a couple of months ago. Jim Stofer, who lived here in Four Seasons, moved to Yuma a year ago. Before he moved we fished together as much as his health would allow. He was a real good old boy who told many great stories. Now he is telling his stories to the angels in heaven. In my last article I said that I would be writing about fishing safety. While fishing I almost drowned in the Salton Sea, got fishing hooks in my hands, and took several of my friends to the hospital who got hurt while fishing. Believe me when you say that can't happen to me, you are dead wrong. Now to answer the big question of how do I stay safe when I am fishing? I will answer that question by going step by step. 1. If possible, never fish alone. A fishing buddy can always help you if you fall or have health issues that come up. 2. Always have a cell phone with you. Make sure that it is charged and ready to go. 3. Let people know where you will be fishing and what time you are expected to come home. 4. Find out about the weather before you go fishing. 5. Have all your fishing gear ready to go. Don't have loose hooks hanging around that may end up in your body parts. 6. Watch your step and look before you sit down while fishing. There are all kinds of snakes and scorpions around and you do not want to sit on one. 7. Take a first aid kit along with you. 8. Find out what the traffic is going to be like when you are driving to your favorite fishing spot. It took me four hours to get to San Diego to go ocean fishing. 9. Don't rush. Make sure you have plenty of time to take care of all your business. 10. Last but not least: Prepare for your fishing trip and take your time in going over your safety list. I am sure that you can come up with more safety tips, so just make a list and follow it as close as possible. Tight lines to all my fishing friends and remember to be safe when you are catching the fish of a lifetime. ~ Richard Carrasco Four Seasons Beaumont was well-represented at The Claremont Club's Western Regional Pickleball Tournament, that was held on Friday, Oct. 5 through Sunday, Oct. 7. Jeromee Liebenberg took home the Gold Medal in his age division which was a first for us in a sanctioned tournament. Perry White played in the very difficult singles event. Perry didn't medal but he played well. Nancy Barnaby and Garrett Warman competed in the mixed doubles 70-75 division and also played well. This tournament had over 700 players. Congratulations to all of our Four Seasons competitors. On a final note, thank you to Tracey Laykoff and her friends for coordinating the monthly recycling program that helps raise funds for special events like our yearly tournament and Christmas Party. See you at the courts and remember, stay out of the kitchen! ~ Rick Von Kleist Pickleball Jim Stoffer, Richard Carrasco, Terry Miller, Dennis Boozer, and Lee Harris catch some whoppers at Yucaipa Regional Park.
