10 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | NOVEMBER 2018 | We have truly been enjoying our Four Seasons' talented author talks! We hope you have enjoyed them as well. On Nov. 15, Nancy Hawkins, a Four Seasons resident for over six years, will share with us her stories about Mildred Wirt Benson, aka, Carolyn Keene, the original writer of The Nancy Drew books. "I worked with her for close to 20 years," says Nancy. "I have memorabilia, photos and stories to share with you about her." Feel free to bring your adult children who grew up with Nancy Drew! The committee voted to move the date of the paperbacks to 2014. If it looks like we could use more books I have an idea! Buy some 2014 - 2018 and donate. Paperbacks are so much easier on the hands. I must admit with all the new hardbound and paperback books being donated I am reading so much I don't have time to clean! Our magazine selections have improved lately. It is wonderful to have so many National Geographics. They are timeless. When you need to get away from it all, come and peruse a National Geo and relax. All other magazines are displayed by the last three months. September, October and November 2018 are needed for the magazine rack at this time. We are delighted that our hard back books are full again. The non-fiction biographies are in alphabetical order once again. They are also color coded them to make it easier to understand what is actually displayed in that section. On the left side are biographies with red dots on the book. They are displayed by the person's name, not by author. On the right side is miscellaneous non-fiction with a blue dot. They are in no particular order. There are some very interesting books there. Take time to check them out. The holidays are here once again. Hopefully it brings grandchildren and our adult children to our homes. The front desk has numerous movies that are appropriate for the younger crowd as well as us adults. Go to the front desk to view a list of what is available and the staff will be happy to provide your selection. It's a great popcorn night! Our committee members have found our books at garage sales, estate sales and used books stores. Some of us actually buy them and bring them back! So, please remember our library works on the honor system. All books are the property of Four Seasons. They have been purchased by our residents. Please respect this. Return your selections. We have been told non-residents have been taking books on Wednesday nights after bingo. We now have a sign stating RESIDENTS ONLY. Please don't let "friends" take books. Thought from Blair; "When you want to focus, start reading a book. And when you read a good book, you won't be able to focus on anything else." Anon. The library committee wishes everyone a happy Thanksgiving. We certainly have much to be thankful for in Four Seasons. Smile during this season, it looks good on you! Until next month… Cookie Our committee member, Char Weakley read Cave Of Bones by Anne Hillerman. Navajo tribal policewoman, Bernadette (Bernie) Manuelito is asked to speak at a character-building outdoor program for at-risk teens. When she arrives she discovers chaos. Annie, a camper, has just returned from a solo experience, hours late and traumatized. And the beloved instructor who hiked to find her is still missing. The action takes place in El Malpais, the rugged lava wilderness bordering the Ramah Navajo reservation. Bernie learns that Annie had stumbled upon some old bones in one of the many lava caves in the area. In her search for the missing man, she decides to ask the help of the legendary retired lieutenant Joe Leaphorn, whose memory of a long ago search in El Malpais proves helpful. Meanwhile, Bernie's husband, Jim Chee, tackles what should be an easy assignment: Get an update on a Navajo man, married to a Tesuque Pueblo woman and neglecting his mother. But, as seems to be Chee's luck, confusion abounds. Before the truth can be revealed, an unexpected blizzard, the possible misuse of tribal funds, an angry Shiprock councilor, and the arrival of a new FBI agent complicate the investigation. Hillerman explores the lore and rituals of Navajo culture as her Navajo police try to unravel the mysteries. Library Committee Millie & Me Nancy Hawkins, a six year resident, will share her stories about Mildred Wirt Benson, aka, Carolyn Keene, the original writer of The Nancy Drew books. "I worked with her for close to 20 years," said Nancy. "I have memorabilia, photos and stories to share with you about her. At the end I will have a PBS TV documentary program I helped with to share for those who wish to stay and view it."
