| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | DECEMBER 2018 | 59 Merry Christmas all! This year has gone by so quickly. The ladies doubles champions are Michelle Carter and Tammy Coker once again with Cathy Leogrande and Michele Walter putting up an impressive fight in the final match! The social with Four Seasons was a great success with over 45 tennis players participating in play and the BBQ following. Thank you to all players who showed up for this event. The Turkey Shoot was changed this year to a Tennis Turkey Tournament - something new and refreshing and special thanks to all who attended. Tom Whittington, Daryl Barton and myself are all looking forward to our Christmas dinner dance on Dec. 6. The new board members for 2019 will be announced at the fourth quarterly meeting prior to the dinner dance and we welcome them. She was first introduced to POP tennis her senior year in college, which at that time was played on grass. After graduating from college, she moved to San Bernardino in 1964 and began teaching physical education and coaching at Pacific and San Gorgonio High Schools. Although she remained very active with teaching, coaching, hiking, cycling, golf, tennis and racquetball, she didn't play the game of POP tennis again until she moved to Sun Lakes. Marlene retired in 1994 and sometime later became involved again with POP. Marlene is one of the best players on the courts and also one of the nicest people you will ever meet. She has a great sense of humor, always smiling, and is a joy to be around. Being an ex-tennis player, Marlene says she likes POP because there is much less court to cover; but more importantly, she says the best part of POP is that the players make it so much fun. Haven't played tennis for years? No problem. You'll be surprised at how quickly it comes back. Never played any paddle or racquet sport? Lace up those tennis shoes, come to the courts and watch us play. There are benches on every court, and we have demo racquets if you decide you would like to give it a try. Our scheduled days of play are Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at 8 am. We also play on Sundays at 8 am. Come out and meet Marlene and some of our other awesome people. We've had much cooler weather lately, especially in the mornings. It's a perfect time of year to meet new people, get more active, and enjoy the beautiful fall weather. Any questions, call Suzanne at 205-9588 or Jeanne at 845-8817.
