6 SOLERA DIAMOND VALLEY | DECEMBER 2018 By Theresa Rossetti, Resident This past year I've written about my "thimble" list and the weddings we were attending. We recently came home from a trip that combined a bit of both. All the years we lived on the East Coast, we had never been to Maine. To check an item off my list, before we traveled to New York for the wedding, we flew to Boston. After a wonderful day revisiting the delights of Boston Harbor, including the Tea Party Museum and Faneuil Hall, we picked up a rental car and drove to Portland, Maine. We had a delightful day in this port town, exploring the history of the town, the shops, the restaurants and the lighthouses. I believe we ate more fresh seafood in those four days than we have had in the four years we've lived in California. Do not get on my case about this, just look at the photos of a supermarket display in Portland and the lobster stew I had there! From there we were on our way to our son's house on Long Island (for the uninitiated that's the island hanging off Manhattan containing the borough of Queens (part of New York City) and the counties of Nassau (think Jones Beach) and Suffolk (think The Hamptons)). After visiting family and friends, taking in a wonderful musical (and cheesecake) on Broadway, the wedding (grilled cheese sandwich cart as we left), we were on our way back home. Now for my complaint. The weather in New York. When we got there it was 85 degrees and 90 percent humidity. By the time we left it was still 90 percent humidity, but the temperature had dropped to 45! I think we need a trip back at least once a year, not just to visit family, but to remind us why we moved here. We'll be going back in May next year. That could mean a beautiful spring or it could be as hot as "he double hockey sticks." Now here we are at the end of my ramblings for the year, so it is time to wish everyone a Happy Hanukkah, Merry Christmas, Happy Kwanzaa and Happy whatever else you might be celebrating!
