FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JANUARY 2019 51 As we look back at our 2018 year, our Four Seasons Pickleball family celebrated some exciting and thrilling accomplishments. We now have exceeded 100 players on our roster. Many of us remember the day when we were in awe of having a list with 30 members. We also had three of our members become "goldies" at 2 USAPA sanctioned tournaments. In October, Jerome Leibenberg won gold for his playing in the single men's 3.0 division 70+ age group. This was a very well-attended tournament in Claremont. In November, we had two more of our players earn the "goldie" title. LynnRae Dupree and her partner Kellie Boggs won gold medals while playing in the 50+ 3.5 women's doubles event in Seal Beach. We are so proud of these players! We also welcomed our 107th "newbie" member, Lorenzo Amaya. When asked what brought him to the pickleball courts, he commented, "I had just retired and had extra time. I was encouraged by the friendly people and it's a lot of fun. I also found it to be less stress on the body than tennis." In contrast to our newest member, our "oldie" most senior member is Lynnette Simonson. When also asked what brought her to pickleball, Lynnette said, "Some tennis players had encouraged me to try pickleball. It fits my desire to play, get exercise, and have a good time." So, now that we are done with the festive calories laden month of December, get outside and burn off those pesky pounds! Even during the cold windy days in December, we often had 20 or more players braving those darn Beaumont winds! Please be sure to come to our courts with water and proper playing court shoes. Happy pickling! ~Irma Peterson Pickleball Roadrunner RVers The Roadrunner RVers are looking forward to several trips already in the planning stages, so please join us the second Thursday of the month at 6 pm at The Lodge for our monthly meeting and get more information about our trips. We currently have excursions planned for Long Beach, Bishop and the gold country. This month's photo is from our excursions to Borrego Springs. Any questions please call Jane Jacobson at (951) 797-3563. ~ Susan Savaglio Jane Jacobson, Susie Savaglio, Larry Savaglio and Tim Jacobson at Big Horn Bar and Grill (in the Saloon) in Borrego Springs Paddle tennis is a great game. Despite the cold and windy days our regular players are there to play a fun game. I would like to encourage all of our tennis players who are experiencing aches and pains in their knees to come out and give paddle tennis a go. The court is smaller and you don't need to be a rollerman to move around the court. It's exciting and challenging and you feel like you have gotten your exercise in for the day. Our winter play schedule is Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 2 to 4 pm. You can also get out early on Monday Friday and Sunday at 8 to 10 am. ~ Alex Castanon Paddle Tennis L-R: Gary Campanella, Terry Miller, Richard Carrasco, Lizzie Blackstead, and Hailu Kinde getting in some great paddle tennis
