| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JANUARY 2019 | 7 By Joe Formino, Chairman, District Delegate Assembly Happy New Year! Can you believe it is the year 2019? I can't! It seems only yesterday I wondered if I would live to see the '80s or '90s let alone beyond the year 2000. How time flies when you are having fun. When you look back over the past years, there are so many things to be thankful for. The place we live, our friends and neighbors, the lifestyle we enjoy, all come to mind. I would begin with the Delegates. What a wonderful bunch of volunteers, working for their neighbors. They are the communicators, the editors, the social directors for their districts. Without them we would not know what is going on in our community nor would we have met so many people as we do at our social events. I am very fortunate being a part of their group and working with them for the benefit of our people. If you want something done, or want some information, or want to know what to do in a certain situation, call your Delegate. Think back, would you have thought five or 10 or 20 years ago that you would live in a gated community with all of the amenities we enjoy? What more could we want to make our lives better? We can thank the original builder, Presley Construction, and the many Boards of Directors for organizing this complex and setting up the financial foundation that we live by today. Beyond a doubt, we are one of the most solvent Senior Common-Interest Complexes in the country. It is a shame only a small percentage of our people use our courses, our pools, our clubhouses and restaurants, our tennis courts and the other amenities. "IT'S THE PEOPLE!" That was a Presley sales slogan. After you have lived here for awhile, it dawns on you that the slogan is true. As you drive down the street, you see a few neighbors in front of their home gabbing, or they wave at you as you drive by. Go to a clubhouse, pool or anywhere else and someone will come up to you and start a conversation. Presley was right, IT'S THE PEOPLE! As the year 2019 begins, let's make it even better. We always need more volunteers, more participation in our activities. If you have a neighbor who doesn't join in the district events, knock on their door and invite them to join you. Say "Hi" to people you don't know and wave as the cars go by, that's the way we live at Sun Lakes. A happy and prosperous new year to all! District Delegate Assembly Report Yes, the English like their tea! Tea drinking was introduced to the English during the 1600s and by the mid-19th century, the fashionable ladies' social event known as Tea Time was all the rage. Originating in the upper class and high society, several different tea times emerged, each with a unique offering of food and drink, enjoyed at different times of day, for different reasons, including the Royale Tea, served with Champagne or Sherry. Traditionally, ladies attending afternoon tea dressed for the occasion, wearing long dresses, gloves and stylish hats. The menu would include a selection of dainty sandwiches, scones served with clotted cream and preserves, cakes or tea cakes, pastries, petits fours or biscuits. And, of course, an assortment of fine teas. Sounds like an enchanting way to spend an afternoon! We invite you to enjoy a Traditional English Afternoon Tea in the North Clubhouse on Wed., Feb. 20 from 2 to 4 pm. Here's your chance to wear your finest tea time attire while you enjoy a delightful variety of savory and sweet delicacies, personally selected by our English tea master. Champagne will also be available to purchase if you wish to step up to a Royale Tea experience (cash only). Hats are optional but highly encouraged and we will have prizes for "best hat" in different categories. We also have several lovely baskets to raffle. The cost is only $28 pp. Tickets will be sold one day only, via a lottery, on Mon., Jan. 21 at 3 pm in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. Doors will open at 2:30 pm and everyone attending will have a chance to buy tickets. Flyers are available in the Main Clubhouse Lobby with more detailed information. Come spend an afternoon with the ladies of Sun Lakes and enjoy the experience of a Traditional English Afternoon Tea. All proceeds go to the Sun Lakes Charitable Trust.
