| OHCC LIVING | FEBRUARY 2019 | 43 Welcome aboard. We did not have a club meeting in December, so our new officers Commodore Forrest Newburg, Vice - Commodore Allan Paloutzian and Fleet Captain Jim Barbee spent much of the month discussing and organizing new plans for the 2019 sailing season. We decided like many other clubs to change our club- meeting schedule. This year we will be holding our club meetings on the first Tuesday of every other month, starting Jan. 8, then followed next on March 5. We will still be ordering appetizers and adult beverages during our meetings. As for monthly sailings, those will continue as before, just check with Fleet Captain Jim Barbee who has put together a few new sign up procedures. We have been working on the social side too, and already we have two parties confirmed, one in May for the Regatta Awards Dinner Party and a summer party with the date to be announced soon. There are a number of other new additions to our club's activities to be shared at our March 5 meeting, so be sure to join us. Preliminary plans are already underway to organize our club's annual Regatta in May, which will be hosted at the beautiful bayside Southwest Yacht Club and Marina in San Diego. Given our new changes, whether you are a member or a person interested in sailing, feel free to call any of our officers mentioned above. We will be glad to bring you up to date on our activities or available sailing dates. One of our goals is to encourage more member participation and input. We believe sailing is best enjoyed as a hands on recreational activity, sort of as… you get out of something what you put into it. It is not primarily a spectator sport, so your participation and involvement at all levels is necessary to keep the club vital and growing. Along this line we will be ordering a Basic Introduction to Sailing 101 class to help familiarize new members with nautical terms, how rigging works, and among other things, how to take control of the helm if you are interested. Be sure to sign up for this class with Jim Barbee, as soon as possible, it should be a lot of fun. Thanks to you all, our Do Dues Day was a big success. Many new members who signed up were also new residents. Welcome aboard mates. Our next meeting will be on March 5, in Abravenal Hall at 7 pm. So come join us and make it a part of your 2019 goals to enjoy some blue water sailing. Cast off all lines and let us get underway. See you then. ~ Commodore Forrest Sailing Club
