From the President – Tom Moore: Well lookie here, it's April already! The days are getting longer, warmer, and dryer, and the evenings are becoming more pleasant. This past February was the coldest February in Southern California since they started keeping records, and March wasn't much warmer. I'm hopeful that now that Spring has sprung (the Vernal Equinox occurred on March 20th), we won't suffer any more "frost delays," and I look forward to seeing more of our recluse golfers begin to make a return appearance on the course. In a further effort to stimulate more participation, the board has elected to designate the 2nd Tuesday of every month as a birthday celebration for all club members having a birthday during that month. To honor all of our birthday boys and girls, the club will purchase lunch in the club house for the honorees. Lunch will be served immediately after golf. Since I didn't have enough space for the "joke of the month" last month, I thought I would include two jokes this time. I hope you enjoy 'em. I once played a golf course that was so difficult, I lost two balls in the ball washer! Two longtime golf buddies were standing on a tee box overlooking a river, getting ready to hit their tee shots. One golfer pointed down the river, turned to the other golfer and said, "Look at those idiots fishing in the rain!" Here's Kati's golf tip of the month: If you have a lot of concern on those tricky little 3-foot putts, try looking at the hole rather than the ball. Just make sure you set the putter to your intended target first. Start with short putts first and work your way back. Works wonders for your confidence. You can use this method for putts up to 20 to 30 feet or even longer! Give it a try, see if it works for you. Kati Biszantz is an LPGA Class A/Life Member. She can be reached at (951) 775-5018. See ya on the golf course! From the Tournament Chair – Addis Scott: Congratulations to our Presidents' Cup - Match-Play Winners: Flight-A Mike Gallagher, Flight-B Bill Hissam and Flight-C Tom Vaughn. You may sign up at our prior Tuesday golf event or contact the Tournament Committee by email at hemet4sgc@gmail.com Our April 2019 Game Schedule is: April 2 at 7:30 (T) – Low Net / Low Gross – Post as Tournament April 9 at 7:30 Partners: Best Net Score Per Hole April 16 at 7:30 Team: Scramble April 23 at 7:30 Individual: Low Net by Flight April 30 at 7:30 Partners: 666 - 6 hole Best Net Score/6 hole Alternate Shot/6 hole Scramble From the Handicap Chair – Melody Lewis: A Course Handicap represents the number of strokes needed to play to the level of a scratch player - or the Course Rating of a particular set of tees. A Course Handicap is expressed as a whole number. The Course Handicap is determined by using charts located at the golf course where the round is played. In addition, for those math wizards, a Course Handicap can be calculated by the following method: Formula: Handicap index multiplied by Slope Rating of tees played, divided by the standard slope rating (113) = Answer rounded to the nearest hole number. Example: 10.4 Index x 125 slope rating (tees played) /113 standard slope rating = 11.5 rounded up to 12. Your "course" handicap would be 12. From the Membership Chair – Elliot Yaeger: Membership has not changed this past month. Membership stands at 123. If you are interested in joining our club, applications are available at the Lodge front desk. Complete the application and attach a check for $66 to cover membership dues of $30 and SCGA membership of $36. Make checks payable to Hemet Four Seasons Golf Club. Membership includes establishment of a handicap from SCGA as well as participation at all club events, including golf tournaments every Tuesday as well as barbecues and banquets. For more information contact Elliot Yaeger at ey1611@gmail.com or (951) 223-3735. From the Rules Chair – Tom Johnson: Golf Tips from Kati Biszantz, Instructor at Hemet Four Seasons Golf Club. (951) 304-0442 1) Leaving the flagstick in when putting. I think this is great as you have a focus point, as well as, if your ball is somewhere near the shadow, it helps you line up. 2) Hazards are now "penalty areas" and you can "ground" or touch the area with your club. 3) You can move loose impediments - stones, leaves, etc. - in that area. Previously you could only move man-made stuff like cigarette butts, cans, paper, etc. - saves damage to your clubs. 40 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | April 2019 |
