FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | APRIL 2019 43 Let's Dance (ballroom dance) Country Line Dancing As the pictures show, we have welcomed lots of new friends to our beginners classes. We had a ball learning the Tango in March. Many of our new dancers were surprised at how easy and fun the Tango is! We have found our weekly practice sessions to be very helpful in keeping the steps fresh in our minds. The monthly Dance Party practice continues to be a fun and supportive way to enjoy our dances in a "Night Club" atmosphere! These events are no charge. We are looking forward to learning Cha- Cha in the month of April. Cha-Cha is a fun, lively dance with so many different ways to express yourself. We use many of the same patterns you may already be familiar with from Waltz, Foxtrot or Rhumba. The music started in the 60s and evokes memories of some fun times for many of us who lived during those years. Cha-Cha has something you don't get from any of the other dances; to dance in shine position, this is when you dance apart without touching your partner. We start our Cha-Cha at a bit slower pace so everyone can do it! So plan to join us in the Ballroom on Monday nights from 6 to 7 pm for Beginners and Newcomers and 7 to 8 pm for Intermediate and Advanced. You will be glad you did! The cost is $10 pp with our professional instructors. Contacts: Puring or Gary Stifter (951) 922-8333 or at purings@ verizon.net. ~ Sue Condurachi Good news! There will be a free Line Dance Sock Hop on Friday, April 26, in the Ballroom from 5 to 8:30 pm. So put your dancing boots on and join us. BYOB. We will supply water, ice and cups. Buy your dinner from Smitty's or bring your own. There will be a variety of music from our classes, but mostly country and Heart and Soul. We always throw in a few waltzes so you can cuddle. So join us even if just to watch and enjoy the music and talented dancers. Our classes work hard each week to try to learn and perfect the dances. Learning a new dance takes time and repeated efforts. While learning the steps, your brain is working in overdrive while it tells your feet what to do. So not only do you get plenty of physical exercise, but your poor brain is straining to keep each dance straight and somewhat accurate. The great thing about line dancing is it allows for "variations" which means you do not have to be perfect. If your knees or hips hurt, you can adjust the dance as long as you are moving in the same direction as the rest of the dancers. Can't spin? Ask me what else you can do instead. I have some talented advanced dancers that help if you are having problems with steps and I am busy. The whole class wants you to succeed at line dancing and join in the fun. So if you like country music and feel you need to exercise more, try the Country Line Dancing Class. We meet on Tuesday in the Ballroom. Beginners at 2 pm, intermediate at 3 pm, and advanced at 3:45 pm. Please bring water and wear shoes that will slide on the wood floor. If you do not have any, try ordering some "dance socks" from www.thedancesocks.com. These are half shoe covers that allow your feet to slide freely on the wood floor. It will make a tremendous difference in your movements and they are inexpensive.
