58 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | APRIL 2019 Fishing Club Games are scheduled at 9 am on both Saturdays and Mondays on the east-most courts outside The Lodge. All are welcome to come play, learn, cheer, moan and enjoy. Shade trees and flowers are nearby. Learn, watch, and have fun. Which color disc goes first? How do you score? Players use a cue (cue-stick). How do you keep opponents away from scoring? Play begins after drawing playing cards for partners. For more information, call Marty Rotman at (310) 948-1693. ~ Marty Rotman Here we are in April, and the weather is going to be great for fishing. The lakes are full and are being stocked regularly with nice, big, fat Rainbow Trout. For you who love to fish for bass, I heard that they are moving up in to the shallows to lay their eggs. I also hear that is a good time to catch the bass when they are in shallow water. I believe that we are going to have another great year of ocean fishing. Right around May the ocean fishing should start getting good. We are lucky to live in place that is close to the ocean and have a bunch of places to hire a boat and go fishing. If you want to have the best chance to catch fish, then charter a one-and-a-half day boat. Mexican waters are usually a good place to catch all kinds of fish. If you drive to Mexico, make sure you have a passport. If you hire a boat out of San Diego then you can buy a fishing permit and you do not need a passport. The American waters should also be a good bet. You can call the different ports and get a good fishing report and decide where you want to go. I would suggest that you book your fishing trip way in advance because when the fishing gets good, it is hard to get a spot on a boat. I will let you know right now that fishing in the ocean here in California can get expensive. Plan on spending anywhere from $200 to $800, depending on the time out on the water and where you are going to be fishing. If you go with friends, the cost of the trip will go down as you can share in the cost of the trip. You can also book a trip that can cost thousands of dollars. I try to remind everyone to bring along motion sickness pills. You will get seasick if the water gets rough. It is no fun to fish when you are sick as a dog. Next month I will be going to Lake Havasu to fish in the Striper Derby. It is going to be a two-day derby that will be May 18 and 19. In my May fishing article I will tell you all about the derby and just how much fun you can have there at the river. The really neat thing about the derby is that you can win all kinds of fishing equipment without even catching a fish. It only takes about three hours to get to Lake Havasu from Beaumont. It is a pretty drive and the weather will be really great for striper fishing. If you want to get your fishing picture in the Breeze, email the picture to me and I will make sure it gets in. My email is below. Tight lines to all my fishing friends and remember to keep all the fish you want to eat and release the others so your fishing friends will have a shot at catching some nice fish. ~ Richard Carrasco, ricarrasco52@gmail.com Shuffleboard My goodness, is there no end to this rain? Well, we know there will be soon. It took some work to get our horseshoe pits back into playing condition, just in time for our First Quarter Tournaments. We played both singles and doubles the last two weeks of March. The winners, along with pictures, will be included in next month's issue. Lots of fun and great competition. You need to come out and join us — you will love it like we do. Our March social event after dinner at The Bistro, was hosted by Ron and Judy Erickson. Let me tell you, my lady can still cook! Her great homemade desserts were fabulous with a hint of green for St. Patrick's Day. Well done, Judith! So, as you can see, we have an endless amount of fun with camaraderie second to none. Come out and see what we're all about. We meet every Wednesday at 9 am at The Summit. Our contacts are Ron Erickson at (951) 846-3288, rejlerickson@sbcglobal.net, or Gary Christie at (951) 845-0520, goldtoy@earthlink.net. ~ Ron Erickson Horseshoe Club Basketball Everyone is welcome. We meet at the basketball court starting at 4 pm on Fridays. Bring your energy and be prepared to have some fun. ~ Richard Hoffman Catching Dorado in Laredo, Mexico
