FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | MAY 2019 39 We meet on the second Tuesday of each month at 9:30 am in the RCN Room 3. Newcomers are always welcome, even if you haven't read the book. The Book Club selection for May is Educated by Tara Westover. Here is a brief description of the book from Amazon.com: "Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Tara Westover was 17 the first time she set foot in a classroom. Her family was so isolated from mainstream society that there was no one to ensure the children received an education, and no one to intervene when one of Tara's older brothers became violent. When another brother got himself into college, Tara decided to try a new kind of life. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge University. Only then would she wonder if she'd traveled too far, if there was still a way home." Please join us when we discuss this book on Tuesday, May 14 at 9:30 am. Patti Chubbuck will be leading the discussion. For those of you who like to read ahead, the book for June is The Reckoning by John Grisham. Our first monthly screening, on Sunday, May 12 at 6 pm, is the film If Beale Street Could Talk (USA 2018, 1 hr. 59 min., English). Here is a brief description from IMDb. com: "African-American teen sweethearts Fonny and Tish are ripped apart when Fonny is wrongly arrested for the rape of a Puerto Rican woman because of the machinations of a racist cop. While seeking justice for Fonny, a pregnant Tish relies on her Harlem community, including her sister, mother Sharon, and future mother-in-law." Our second monthly screening, on Sunday, May 26 at 6 pm, is the film At Eternity's Gate (USA/UK 2017, 1 hr. 51 min., English and some subtitles). Here is a brief description from IMDb. com: "During a self-imposed exile in Arles and Auvers-Sur- Oise, France, Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh develops his unique, colorful style of painting. While grappling with religion, mental illness and a tumultuous friendship with French artist Paul Gauguin, van Gogh begins to focus on his relationship with eternity rather than the pain his art causes him in the present." All of our screenings are followed by lively discussion about the film; we'd love to have you join us. The Lodge Theatre has very limited seating, so if you're interested in our screenings, come early. We hope to see you there. Please note that all films announced are subject to availability. If you have any questions about the Counter Culture Cinema Club or want to recommend a film, please email Micki Rosen at michelesrosen@gmail.com. ~ Micki Rosen
