| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | MAY 2019 | 3 From the President's Desk By Sandra Moyer The Master Board Elections are over and here are the results: Dan Comerford 2,296 votes, Linda Spaulding 2,040 votes, and Howard Katz 1,878 votes. Dan and Linda's term will be until 2021. Congratulations to all. The IRS Revenue Ruling 70 - 604 passed. The number of votes for were 2,739, against 84, and abstain 497. In past years a pamphlet was created by Associa listing the accomplishments of the Boards and then mailed to the residents. The cost to do this was 10 to 12 thousand dollars each year. This Board felt it was not necessary to spend that money because the accomplishments are announced each year at the Annual Meeting of the Membership and Election, as well as posted on our website. We have been criticized for this practice. We will still maintain our position on this matter but I have listed a few of the major accomplishments and you may find the whole list on our website. • Brought in FirstService Residential management company • Finalized the ongoing issue with Loma Linda Hospital & City of Beaumont drainage area on #16 hole of championship course • Approved funds to fix the cart path on #16 • Lake liner on #9 was completed/South end range tee was extended and a new cart path was poured • Installed backboard for North Clubhouse Tennis Courts • Upgraded the Ballroom sound system • Introduced new community patrol Securitas and assisted them to get established and up to date with Sun Lakes procedures • Installed new stop/cross traffic signs at Gate 3 intersection • North Clubhouse floor replacement • Gate 1, Security cameras with 2 TV's with HDMI Ports installed • Installed new waterproof wiring and LED fixtures at the Main Clubhouse pool • Approved drought-tolerant landscaping for designated areas on the golf course common areas near holes 8 and 18 on the championship course and holes 15 - 18 on the executive course. Artistic Maintenance was directed to maintain these areas. Changing gears, I want to address the false allegations made about me and the Sun Lakes Charitable Trust. Unfortunately, the Banning Informer thinks it can say whatever it wants to under the cover of "freedom of speech." Of course, they do not have the integrity or guts to sign their names. Why do people even bother to go on these sites let alone believe it without checking out the facts? The people they are hurting are the 22 to 24 501(c)(3) charities we give to, the reputation of the Charitable Trust, and the residents of Sun Lakes. If you did not attend our April 24 Open Session, please watch it on channel 97 to get the real facts. Freedom of speech must also come with "integrity and "responsibility." In the words of Eleanor Roosevelt, "Freedom makes a huge requirement of every human being. With freedom comes responsibility. For the person who is unwilling to grow up, the person who does not want to carry his own weight, this is a frightening prospect." Winston Churchill states, "Everyone is in favor of free speech. Hardly a day passes without its being extolled, but some people's idea of it is that they are free to say what they like, but if anyone else says anything back, that is an outrage."
