34 | OHCC LIVING | MAY 2019 | Silversmiths Ever find really cute or interesting plastic or rubber items as prizes and wish you could make them into something you could wear or use as a zipper pulls, (grandkids enjoy them)? Maybe you are more interested in unique crosses or carved items. Lost wax is the best (in some cases the only means) to capture your wishes or ideas. Do you need a temporary loan of medical equipment? Helping Hands maintains an inventory of wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, canes and shower chairs for people living in Ocean Hills Country Club. Call one of the volunteers listed below and we will deliver to your door at no cost to you. You can help a neighbor in OHCC by donating a clean, serviceable item that you are no longer using to Helping Hands. Check your storage areas for the items listed in this article. Gary Lucas (760) 707-8363 Dan Vervisch (760) 724-4746 Tom Mazur (760) 295-1006 Tim Wilbur (760) 639-5221 Dennis Drake (760) 859-7046 Helping Hands Group Village Vets Congratulations to Fred Campbell who informed me that he has also been selected with four other OHCC Vets in May to travel to Washington D.C. to attend the San Diego Honor Flight afforded our veterans to see our national veteran memorials. Fred was the recipient of a Purple Heart medal as he was wounded during the Korean War. We had another great turnout at our April 25, general meeting with Colonel Jeff Holt, Deputy Commander of Camp Pendleton. At our next general Village Vets, meeting on June 27, our speaker will be Anita Simon, playwright and OHCC resident. She will discuss her research into German POW and internment issues in America during WW2. We have been invited to the Pet Lovers annual summer meeting, on Aug. 10. The speaker will be Staff Sergeant Jason Morgan, USAF from Dallas Texas. He was a participant in the Military Paralympics (War Games) and author of the best selling book A Dog Called Hope. Because of the limited space, we will have a sign-up sheet available at our general meeting for those wishing to attend the Pet Lover's meeting in August. Save the date for our Village Vets Holiday Party, Dec. 15 in Abravenal Hall. We are planning to host about 20 active military personnel and spouses. There was a ribbon cutting ceremony for Inspiration Hill on March 18. You can still have a paver with your inspirational words, please go to the Clubhouse Front Desk, and submit your form with an appropriate check.
