You know spring has arrived when Water Volleyball is in full swing! These hardy people play year-round on
Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, but not on cold rainy days that happened too much this winter! Their playing
time is 3 to 5 pm until the end of October. There is no sign-up, and they don't recruit players. Instead, people
are welcome to just jump in the pool and try it. They always have a mix of accomplished players and beginners
- no one is ever turned away. Contact committee members Charlie Payne, Alan Ballard, or Greg Coffey for more
information. As the pictures will attest its lots of fun!
The start date of beginner's pickleball lessons has been changed to June 1. Herb Livsey, Mike Hoggatt and other
staff will guide those that want to learn the game. Lessons are Saturdays at the HOA courts from 9:15 to 11 am or
so and eventually expands to include other days and times to practice skills. Lessons are free, open to all residents;
Racquet Club membership is not required. The kick-off Spring Pickleball Tournament organized
by Herb Livsey and Associates takes place May 9.
At the first Paddle Tennis Tournament held on April 1, the paddle tennis players of all skill
levels had a great time competing in round robin play in three groups. The participants
have to play with and against everyone in their group. After the dust settled, the winners
were declared: Walt Kriewald, Cliff Singh, and a tie in the last group, Debi Vail
and Tweed Ross. Five other players won additional raffle prizes, and then
many participants and guests went out to eat together at Grand Slam
Pizza, so all had a good time. Brenda Stafford, Allan Singer, and
Sally Palmer who did the scoring and kept the groups moving
quickly on and off the courts ran the tournament.
