38 | OHCC LIVING | MAY 2019 |
Welcome aboard! We've had rough weather months for
sailing, with the cold and rain appearing on some of our sailing
days. Now for May we are looking forward to weather that is
more successful and sailings. So to our members be sure to
check our club's website for available crew spots.
Last minute cancellations are now leaving space available to
get on-board each month. Our Fleet Captain, Jim Barbee had
a number of members sign up to be students for his sailing
orientation class. It was successfully offered as either a two-day
classroom seminar only or as a two-day seminar and a two day
sailing on the SD Bay workshop. We are looking forward to hear
from the students on how that experience went.
May should bring us closer to our club's planned sailing
onboard the San Salvador (pictured above). She is a full scale,
100 ft. long, 10-foot draft, replica of the flagship galleon of
explorer Juan Cabrillo who sailed her here in 1542 with offcers,
a crew and a priest to discover San Diego Bay. So be sure to sign
up for this exciting sailing opportunity.
As we head into our warmer and windy summer months
we plan to do a lot of sailing so be sure to join us. We will also
have more information for you on our summer party in August.
We meet the first Tuesday of every other month, May and then
in July. Hope you will join us. Cast off all lines and let us get
underway Commodore Forrest Newburg.
