I love the catchy Jerry Reed vocal, East Bound And Down – from
the movie Smokey and the Bandit - especially the line, "We've got a
long way to go and a short time to get there."
That line may be appropriate for two upcoming shows The Solera
Performing Arts Society (SPAS) is planning; Showtime X in October
of this year and revisiting the popular musical done a few years back
called Ain't Retirement Grand scheduled for April of 2020.
Let's take a look at these shows in their scheduled order:
October 11 and 12, 2019 - Showtime X - a variety show. If you have
not attended or participated in one of these shows, please think about
singing a song, playing an instrument, dancing, doing a monologue
or skit, or how about lip syncing? We have a lot of fun with this show.
All acts rehearse individually and then in the week of the show, acts
come together for a final rehearsal.
April 10 and 11, 2020 - SPAS has decided to start a lot earlier in
planning and preparing for the spring show. We are going to do a
musical production called Ain't Retirement Grand in the spring of
2020.
We are looking for piano players to "share" the musical load as well
as performers. This show is basically a musical, but for those who do
not sing, several of the songs can be spoken instead of sung.
SPAS will have a "Retirement" script for viewing at the front desk.
Acts already spoken for will be identified.
There are sign-up sheets for both shows in the Club section of the
binder at the front desk. As the SPAS motto says, "IT'S ALL ABOUT
THE FUN!"
