SOLERA DIAMOND VALLEY | MAY 2019 17 Are you looking for a game to play, but you're not into cards, or you're just looking for something different? Here are three possibilities you might be interested in: Mexican Train: If you're looking for a fun and easy game, join us for Mexican Train in the Stonecreek Room on Tuesday nights at 6 pm. If you've played this domino game before you might find our version a little different. Nevertheless, we welcome you and are happy to instruct beginners. Charades: Most of our residents have heard of charades and maybe even played it. We have a fun group of regulars that are eager to help anyone who needs to learn the rules. If you're hesitant about joining us, come and observe. Laughs are guaranteed. A bonus is the delicious snacks participants bring. It's a fun and entertaining evening on the second and fourth Wednesdays at 6:30 pm in the Craft Room. Mah Jongg: Mah Jongg has a passing similarity to Gin Rummy, using tiles instead of cards. There are three suits rather than four (as well as exotic looking extra tiles like Flowers, Winds, Dragons and the almighty Joker), and you are restricted in the hand you build to those on a card replaced annually by the National Mah Jongg Society. The name means "sparrow" in Chinese, which comes from the clacking sound the tiles make when they are mixed up to start a game. It requires skill, strategy and a good bit of luck. If you are looking for a little gentle brain stimulation, I highly recommend Mah Jongg. Mah Jongg meets Mondays at 12 pm and Thursdays at 5 pm in the Deergrass Room. Players range from dedicated to casual, but all are friendly and welcoming. Since, however, the learning curve may be steep at first, I suggest waiting for a beginner's training class.
