The 8-Ball Club A photo-op before the big game. Left to right: Marty Key, Scott Martin, Lyle Cameron, Beverly Jack Pickleball First off, we want to thank all those brave pickleball players who have continued to play through the cold and windy conditions. It is amazing that we have managed to fill both courts even in the wildest of weather patterns. That is a true testament to the growing popularity of the game. In a previous Breeze, we told you that we were expecting the proper lines to be painted by the beginning of February but, for unknown reasons, there was a delay. We have been told that they now have selected another painting contractor and the painting should be done by beginning of March. Lets keep our fingers crossed. Regardless, we will still show up and play. Pickleball is just too much fun to miss. If you have not tried it, you are really missing out. If tennis has proved too difficult to learn or it is too hard on your knees, come on out to the pickleball courts. It is easy to learn the basics (the scoring is a little goofy) and we have extra paddles and balls for those that just want to drop by and play. We have been steadily adding new players and watching all the members improve on a daily basis. We are going to outgrow our courts soon and may need to lobby for an additional court. Something to think about We are in the process of updating the current roster. If you would like to be added to the roster and receive e-mail updates, please contact Linda at (951) 797-3939 or e-mail to lbsnipes@ yahoo.com. FYI: Our scheduled days are Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday at 10 am. See you on the courts! ~ Linda Snipes The end of the year 8-Ball Club party was held with a delicious meal from The Good China Express, fresh baked pies from Smittys and a good time was had by all who attended. Our monthly in-house 8-Ball tournament was won once again by Dewey Allen who just bested Kenny Payne in the finals. Kenny went on to win the 9-Ball Tournament in a hard fought battle with Rick Loney, but Kenny carried the day. The team traveled recently to Solera in Hemet for one of our traveling tournaments from which we came away victorious. We always enjoy the camaraderie of friendly completion and the excitement of these tournaments that keep our skills sharp and our interest piqued. Club meetings are held the first Wednesday of the month, in-house 8-Ball Tournaments are the second Wednesday and the 9-Ball in-house tournaments on the third Saturday of each month. Most traveling tournaments are scheduled for Monday evenings; check the bulletin in the pool room for exact date and location. As a service to the community, immediately after monthly club meetings, all the billiards balls are cleaned by club members with the manufacturer supplied chemicals and towels. The team will soon service and clean the in-house cue sticks to help maintain the quality of our community assets. The team practices are nontournament Mondays plus every Wednesday and Friday at 7 pm. We have a great group of guys and gals who are a lot of fun to play with and to hang out with. ~ Thanh Harrah Kenny Payne and Rick Loney just after the 9 Ball Tournament that Kenny won Our Saviors Lutheran ELCA Food Pantry Mon., 9 - 11 am 16 Self Help Groups Synagogue 3rd Friday, 7 pm Toddler Nite Wed., 5:30 pm Worship 8 & 10:30 am (951) 849-3343 1320 W.
