| Four Seasons Hemet Herald | JUNE 2019 | 13 May was Mother's Day. Did you receive a new book? Be sure to donate it after you finish reading it. June is upon us now and Father's Day is approaching. I have a great idea, buy that father a "manly" book and then donate it to our library. Somehow most of Clive Cussler's books are checked out. We also can't keep Lee Child's books on the shelves. His character, Jack Reacher, is a real favorite of men. Happy shopping! It seems as though this weather has people at home reading more. So many books are checked out that we actually have plenty of room to shelve our books. We keep the fiction hardbound books from 2010-up. We don't have a date on the non-fiction books. History is important as well as the biographies. If you haven't looked at our non-fiction lately, take a minute to see what's available. The library committee constantly brainstorms ways to keep our library at its best. We have few rules but the ones we have are important. Our paperback books have plenty of room now that the accepted dates are from 2014-up. That is still five years displayed. The shelves wax and wane constantly. Sometimes it's hard to squeeze a book in and then we'll look empty! If we haven't received a paperback lately let's buy ourselves a 2018 paperback and donate it! Are you enjoying the book marks that we made available for anyone to take? Most of us have many book marks at home. I have so many that were presents, why not make extras available for our residents? If you don't have one please take one home. Have extras? Bring them up for our cute container. Our magazines have been over-flowing lately. Normally our rack is pretty empty but not this month. Thank you for your donations. At this time please bring your April, May and June magazines to be displayed. We send older ones to the Hemet library. We so hoped you enjoyed our Author's talk by Kay Murphy. She is a delight and has written, The Tainted Legacy of Bertha Gifford, The Dogs Who Saved Me and Ghost Grandma. We have enjoyed our series of authors sharing their talent that we have made this an on-going event. Join us for a relaxing hour in the Ballroom. With so many vacations during the summer the committee goes dark (no meetings) July and August. When we reconvene in September author, George Gurney, will speak Sept. 26. And, there will be cookies to munch on. I would like to take a moment to thank Jim Hatcher for his support as our BOD liaison. We want to congratulate Jim on his new role but we will miss him. Volunteering is important in all communities and we encourage all residents to get involved. All of us do our very best to keep Four Season's a community to be proud of. Join us! Thought from Blair; "Well-run libraries are filled with people because what a good library offers cannot be easily found elsewhere: an indoor public space in which you do not have to buy anything in order to stay." Zadie Smith Committee member Anita read There, There by Tommy Orange. A debut novel that is surely to invoke much heated discussion on the ramifications of what American culture has wrought on the Native American. The tribes are destined to tell their stories and tell them they do – through the eyes of 12 characters: Dene is collecting them using a camera from his dying uncle, Bill, who works at the coliseum picking up garbage, Edwin searching for his true dad, Jacquie Red Feather recently sober, Orville in full regalia who has taught himself to dance from videos and will perform in public for the first time … It is Oakland and it all culminates on the grassy grounds where the Big Pow Wow takes place – dreams scattered about, lives fleeting away, hope centered in the mist of mayhem. Where are you from? There? There? But it isn't there anymore – it's all been taken away. Library Committee Emergency preparedness committee Four Seasons CERT continues to need your participation.
