| OHCC LIVING | JUNE 2019 | 17 Garden Club All residents are welcome to attend our general meeting on the second Wednesday of each month in Abravanel Hall, beginning at 9:30 am for refreshments and socializing. Stop at the greeters' table for a nametag and pick up a ticket for a chance to win one of the beautiful plants that we give away each month. You may also be the lucky winner of a flower arrangement made by our speaker, David Root. If you want to sign up for membership or for volunteering, stop at our hospitality table. We are looking for a volunteer to serve on the Garden Club Board of Directors in the Publicity position. If you are interested, please contact Mary Kay Murray for more information at marykay. murray38@gmail.com. Wed., June 12, 2019 - General Meeting: You may have many flowers blooming in your garden this spring and would like to learn how to make some beautiful bouquets. If so, you won't want to miss this meeting. We are fortunate to have David Root, one of our most popular speakers, return to the OH Garden Club to present another enjoyable talk on flower arranging. He will be demonstrating a number of floral arrangements, from contemporary to traditional. Mr. Root will give us tips and tricks on how to create artistic designs using unique containers. He has offered to donate a few flower arrangements for our raffle following the meeting. David Root's career as a floral designer was a natural outgrowth of his 11 years as a hair designer. In 1990, his creative instincts spontaneously led him to become one of the hundreds of volunteers, known as "petal pushers," who work on the spectacular floats in Pasadena's Rose Parade. In 2017, he was the recipient of one of the most prestigious awards on the West Coast, California State Floral Association Top Ten winner. He won the coveted Designer of the Year award at the San Diego County Fair in 1992. Helpful Gardening Information: The El Corazon Compost facility, 3210 Oceanside Blvd, 760-439-9920 is a vital resource for Oceanside, providing high quality organic compost and mulches to Oceanside residents at no cost. As proof of residency, you will be asked to show a drivers license. They will then direct you to the proper location where you can self-load your containers.
