38 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | AUGUST 2019 Step It Up Line Dancing Country Line Dancing We had a fabulous dance party last month thanks to our member and DJ, Elizabeth Westbrook. The dance floor stayed busy all night, and everyone went home exhausted. We also had some people attend just to watch and enjoy the music. Who knows? Some might be motivated to come to class and begin dancing. I moved here in 2007 and attended a social function, "Hoe Down." I was so disappointed because I could not do a single dance. So, I signed up for line dancing lessons at The Grange in Beaumont. I took lessons for the next three to four years. Somewhere during that time I started helping teach line dancing here in Four Seasons. Soon, the instructor left and I took over the class. Years later I am still teaching here and still learning new dances to teach. Dancing has many benefits for your health: as you learn the steps, your brain works hard to memorize the pattern of that dance; dancing makes your heart stronger because you are moving more; your balance may improve as you use your legs and feet more and become more agile; and dancing is social as it is done in a group. There are steps called variations or modifications that allow for those with hip, knee or balance issues to do a dance with a slightly different move. Line dancing is very forgiving; your steps do not have to be exactly the same as long as you are moving in the same direction as the rest of the dancers. If line dancing is on your "bucket list," come join us to learn or just watch on a Tuesday afternoon. You will meet a friendly group of people who love dancing. My Very Beginner class begins at 1:30 pm. The other classes run from 2 to 4:30 pm. Check the Breeze schedule for the class that fits your experience level best. Questions? Call Martha Franck at (714) 345-8588. ~ Martha Franck Cowabunga, dudes! There is something about a beach party that just makes you feel free to have fun, and fun was had by all. Thanks to all, once again, who participated in the Beach Party event and congratulations to the winners of the Limbo contest, Julie Roth, and the Hula Hoop contest, Dianne Martinez. We also had a beach ball relay race, and the highlight of the night seemed to be chair volleyball. Marty and Shelly dressed up again, and Shelly was proud to show off her colorful "POM POMs." There was also Steve the Beatnik and Aundrea Katz who looked like a 12-year-old dressed for the beach. Kudos to Neil, Bernie, Gino, Jack, Tom, Bob, and the other guys who tried the hula hoop as it was a sight to see! Many other attendees dressed up for the event which always adds to the fun. We started the new July class, which is a three-month class with a focus on repetition so that you can really learn and understand the dances. The classes start at 12:30 pm on Mondays for LD101, which is the entry-level class, and runs for 45 minutes. We pick up the pace a little more from 1:15 to 2:30 pm, so no matter your level, don't be afraid to come out and try some line dancing. The music is always changing to keep things fresh. The focus of this class is to have fun and learn some dances along the way.
