| OHCC LIVING | AUGUST 2019 | 19 Better When I'm Dancing is a contemporary song the Village Line Dancers dance to and IT'S TRUE! We DO feel better when we are dancing! Our instructor, Christine, picks some great songs with choreography that various levels can enjoy — and you don't need a partner! • For the beginners: Fly Like a Bird, Uptown Funk, Some Beach, and 18 Wheels and a Dozen Roses. • For the intermediates: Fireball, Sweet Caroline, Neon Light, River of Love, Shake a Tail Feather, Can't Stop the Feeling, and Down to the Honky Tonk. • For the advanced class: Lento, Such a Night, Every Little Honky Tonk Bar, and Chilly Cha Cha. If you like Rock 'n Roll, either just listening or dancing, The Doo Wop, and Disco Dance Club is for you. We have almost one party a month and two annual meetings/socials. We have many creative members who bring more fun to our parties with a theme. In June Laura Urban and Debi Vail hosted our DJ party around Denim And Diamonds complete with a BBQ dinner, some Western music crossover hits, and lots of sparkles and western gear! This month we will be celebrating the BIG 50th Anniversary of WOODSTOCK! Members get details via email on how to sign up for these parties. It takes getting up early in the morning to get tickets to many of these popular parties. Annual membership is just $10 per year per person. Just leave your check, (made payable to "Doo-Wop and Disco Dance Club") with the receptionist at the Clubhouse and complete the new member information form that is in the Doo-Wop Club's folder. New members are always welcome. Parties for the rest of the year are Fri., Sept. 27, Sun., Oct. 27, Sat., Nov. 16, and Sat., Dec. 21. Our meeting/social is Tues., Oct. 15. For more information, e-mail the Doo Wop Club at ohdoowopclub@gmail.com or check our web page on OceanHillsCountryClub.com under Clubs. Village Line Dancers Doo Wop Village Squares As our students have started learning the Mainstream Plus calls, they have come to realize how important our "Angels" are. Angels are club members who have at least one year as a student and at least one more year as either a second year student, or student partner. Besides being there to welcome the newbies and make the classes fun, Angels dance with each new student at both the Tuesday and Thursday classes. Angels provide to students their experience and help. Angels are also able to sharpen their own dancing skills while helping new students. In July, our club welcomed many other North County clubs to our Red, White and Blue dance. Andy Allemao, and incredibly energetic caller, led us all through a great night of dancing, talking, and eating a delicious spread put on by our club members. Please check out our website at ohccvillagesquares.wix.com/ villagesquares. Along with a monthly calendar of events, there are also links to other club dances in the area, videos of all the dance moves the students are learning, pictures and videos of our club events, and even a video of Sam, the square dancing dog. Any questions, please contact our president, Pete Cannon at OHCCVillageSquares@gmail.com. Choral Society The Choral Society is thrilled to announce that we have our new director! Gail Burnett has stepped forward to lead our group of enthusiastic singers. You might recognize Gail as a member of the Four Pitches. She has a vast musical background. Her talents have already been on display as she creates her vision for the chorus. Winter Concert music has already been selected. The chorus is looking forward to starting rehearsals in September. We will follow Gail down whatever musical road she takes us.
