Bring on the hot summer nights of August. We hope everyone's summer is sizzling along. The outdoor activities are in full-swing with over 20 events booked on the Lanai and Palm Court. The Water Volleyball resident players have challenged the staff to join them poolside Fri., Aug. 23 at 3 pm for the annual water volleyball competition. The staff makes every effort to volley the ball back and forth but, truthfully, the residents are retired and in pretty good shape. With yoga, a game of golf, a few bench presses, and walking around the Village loop, the residents definitely have the edge. Please join us for a good laugh and cheer on the staff - we will certainly need it! With the pool season in full-swing reminders of pool etiquette need to be addressed. Be sure to take a shower before entering. An outside shower is there to use. This is important not only for cleanliness but to remove oils, sunscreens and perfumes, that may come in contact with the water. Bandages and Band-Aids are not allowed in the pool. This rule is important to prevent infections. Children may swim 11 am to 2 pm during the week. On weekends they may swim 11 am until 3 pm. A resident recently reported that there was a young man who did not shower, dove right into the pool, and was not accompanied by a resident. If you see something - report it! Years ago, they had "pool angels," they were residents that volunteered to accompany guests to the pool for those that were unable to do so. What a great idea! Please feel free to notify the Front Desk, if there are issues at the pool. Cell phones do come in handy. The Community Services Committee have reviewed several presentation possibilities for the upcoming months. They have come up with the following informative topics that have been placed on the Recreation Department calendar. Kaiser Permanente Senior Advantage with Dr. Rhee, Lunch and Learn, Fri., Aug. 23 at 12 noon. Tri-City Lunch and Lecture, Thurs., Sept. 12 at 11:30 am and Thurs., Oct. 31 at 11:30 am. Oceanside Parks and Recreation, Senior Volunteer Options, Wed., Sept. 18 Alzheimer's Discussion with Susan Miller, Author of My Life Rearranged, Wed., Nov. 13. The "Recreation Happenings" is trying to keep the membership informed of all activities for the rest of 2019. One of our favorites is the Flea Market (Sept. 21), tables can be reserved for a fee. The community comes together and the camaraderie is felt throughout the Clubhouse. The bargains are to die for and the treasures are shared from house to house each year. Read the publications and stay informed, as one of these great events may pass on by. We know we have done our job when it comes to publicizing our events and we want everyone to feel they have been invited. Our Second Ice Cream Social is on the 26th of this month at 2 pm and we are including entertainment. It is good to come in and rub shoulders with neighbors. And best of all… there is no charge! It is a fun time, reminding us of the good ol' days, when nothing was better than a cold treat on a hot summer day - we all scream for ice cream! This is paradise, and for some it is an extension of their living room and their backyard. One resident came in and said her pipes were being redone in her home and she was planning to spend the day here. Now, that says something about the Clubhouse. See you by the pool!
