| OHCC LIVING | AUGUST 2019 | 33
We walk and hike every two weeks on alternating Thursdays
and Fridays. The walk is typically one and a half to two miles on
relatively level terrain. The hike is usually three and a half to four
and a half miles with 200 to 500 feet of elevation gain. After the hike
we go to lunch together for socializing and discussion of hike/walk.
There were 32 of us who went to Big Bear Lake from May 29 -
June 1. Thanks to the meticulous planning of Kathi and Bob Harper
all had a great time. The first night we arrived there was a delicious
group dinner at Captain's Anchorage Restaurant. The next day after
our free breakfast we had a choice of three hikes of varying degrees
of difficulty that were quite picturesque. The next day we went
to Snow Summit to take the ski lift to the top. After a short hike
around the top, we had lunch. Then we trekked down the mountain
on the very challenging Long Chute Trail. That evening we took
a paddle wheel trip around the Lake on the Big Bear Queen. Our
appreciation goes out to Kathi and Bob they did a great job.
We hiked the Santa Margarita trail on June 27, it was quite
enjoyable. Our summer party on the Lanai was great. We had over
80 members attend. We feasted on Hawaiian Barbecue and danced
to good music from Music Station (more details next month). San
Clemente Beach hike was beautiful. Only one hike in August on the
15th around Mission Bay.
The new schedule and any updated information will be posted
on the web at: www.ohwh-club.com/walkers-hikers/schedule
sometime this month.
For each hike we meet at 8:30 am in the overflow parking lot by
the Clubhouse and car pool to and from the hike. Passengers give
the driver some cash for gas. Always bring water, a hat, sunscreen,
and sturdy shoes.
