34 | OHCC LIVING | AUGUST 2019 |
July and August are busy months for the Sailing Club. Our Vice
Commodore Allan put together a great excursion for the members
and combined a docent tour of the SD Maritime Museum including
the San Salvador (seen above) used by Capt. Juan Cabrillo in
discovering San Diego Bay and a Swift Boat Naval Bay Cruise. These
Swift Boats were used during the Vietnam War for river patrolling
and assault missions. We also had a number of sailings go out
onboard the Catalina 290's we charter from Harbor Island YC.
The big event for us will be our "Night at the Tropicana" summer
party on Sat., Aug. 24. Capt. Daniel Sansoni and his volunteer crew
have put together a grand theme for the evening to celebrate the
history and spectacular costumes and dance shows performed
outdoors at the Tropicana Night Club in Havana, Cuba in the 40s and
50s. The evening will include Caribbean cuisine, and steel drum
band music, popular DJ dancing music and a Carmen Miranda
headdress competition for you creative ladies who really sparkle
with the right fruit-filled and feathered headdress on. Prizes will be
awarded. Seating is still available so we hope you will join us.
