| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | SEPTEMBER 2019 | 9 Charity Week Donation Distribution The annual District 22 Golf Tournament will be held Sat., Sept. 14 at 8:30 am on the Championship Course. This will be a four man scramble with the intent to have fun, meet your neighbors, and little golf. Lunch will be at the South Clubhouse afterwards. Flyers are in both pro-shops. For more information contact Randy Robbins at (909) 499-3570 or randyLLump@yahoo.com. DISTRICT GOLF TOURNAMENT Sun Lakes residents! Join us on Tues., Oct. 1, in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom and meet the local non-profit organizations that will receive a share of funds raised during the 2019 Charity Week activities. Money raised from the various events will be distributed by the Sun Lakes Charities Board of Directors. There will be entertainment and refreshments as well. A representative from each nonprofit will be allowed a few minutes to speak to the audience about what they do and how their donation will be used. Many of the programs focus on the underprivileged, the youth, and/or the elderly in our area. Each has a table where residents may visit, pick up information or ask questions about the non-profit. In addition to donating financially, many Sun Lakers are volunteers at some of these organizations. Residents are welcome and encouraged to wear their Fab 60s attire and attend the presentation which will begin at 6 pm. Do you remember where you were on the morning of September 11, 2001? Do you remember someone calling you to turn on your television? Do you remember seeing the devastation in New York of the Twin Towers? The 9/11 disaster is beginning to fade from memory like World War ll and the Korean War. We cannot allow this to happen; it is part of our history. In fact, it is part of the history of many other countries around the world. When reviewing the list of those who died on that day, they were citizens of 96 different countries. Their families and citizens of their countries have a right to be remembered. Mt. San Jacinto College remembers each year. The San Gorgonio Pass Campus in Banning has presented a program for many years. Dr. Bertha Barraza, the founder, will commemorate the event on Wed., Sept. 11, at the campus at 8:30 am. The location is 3144 Sunset Ave., south of the 10 freeway. The program will have the 9/11 Time of Observance, a Survivor's Letter, VFW Color Guard, Banning High School Band, and a 9/11 presentation, as well as a story, slide show, and an exhibition of memorabilia. The presentation is open to the public. Contact your friends and family and invite them to attend with you. September 11, Another Day of Infamy "All Is Well" Daily Check-In Interest Meeting There are a number of residents in Sun Lakes who find themselves living alone as an unintended consequence and have no daily contact with anyone outside of their own home. Neighbors don't always think to check on each other. An exploratory meeting is scheduled for Sept. 23 at 10 am in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room to discuss the feasibility of establishing an "All is well" daily check-in service for those residents who live alone. If you have an interest in participating in such a service, as a provider or beneficiary, please attend our meeting. This will be a brainstorming session and any input would be helpful. Call Barbara Searcy at (951) 663-3382 for further information. By Joe Formino, Vice President, MSJC 9/11 Committee Now is the time to update your listing in the next issue of the Sun Lakes Phone Directory. All changes must be turned in by Oct. 21, 2019.
