| OHCC LIVING | SEPTEMBER 2019 | 39 Racquet Club August reporting tells the tale of an afternoon on July 15, that began under a blazing sun with three rigorously trained and highly motivated Water Volleyball Teams attacking each other for two grueling hours. The exhausted and indeed barely conscious team captains reported the final results as Ball Beaters 3-1, Senior Spikers 3-1 and Tuna Helpers 2-2. The Racquet Club Statistics Department has audited and verified the results, but has been unable to explain how none of the teams had a losing record. The teams then crawled over to the Palm Court where they revived enough to eat a giant pile of pizza and salad, and 100 percent of Kathleen's enormous homemade pineapple-upside-down cake. Charlie Payne foolishly thought he was going to take some leftover cake home - with Ted Bergerson there he really should have known better. I'm happy to report all the contestants survived the battles! Pickleball Drop-in times at the Clubhouse courts and the HOA courts will now have the same hours: 9 am - noon daily Mondays - Saturdays. A drop-in for "Social Pickleball" will be held at the HOA Courts from 5:30 to 7:30 pm during Daylight Savings Time, on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. What is Social Pickleball? It is meant to attract a mixed group of players (intermediate, novice, beginners – even advanced) who like to play without worrying about winning (or slamming or spinning). This is a group who will welcome like- minded pickleballers. Don't forget that Tennis (T-1) is open for pickleball Mon – Fri from 9:30 am on. When pickleball classes end in late summer, it will be available Saturday mornings too. If you are feeling crowded at the other courts in the morning, grab some friends and play your drop-in at T-1. Finally, if you have not been paying attention, the summer pickleball class is booming! We are averaging over 30 players Saturday mornings and a similar turnout for the optional Monday evening sessions. They're coming... and we are trying to create more playing opportunities for all! Paddle Tennis Drop-in continues on Monday mornings from 9 - 10:30 am at the HOA Courts 4 and 5. Please come out and join this group, at any level. They have a lot of fun and would love to welcome you to their group. Tennis Open Play beats the heat by playing from 7:30 to 9:30 am on T-1 Mon. – Sat. and schedules Come & Play Drop-in at Court 3 from 8 to 9:30 am M/W/F.
