20 | OHCC LIVING | SEPTEMBER 2019 | Pet Lovers Club President, Ellen Kippel, reports that, as always, we had enough food to feed an army at our annual brunch. "Thank you to all the Pet Lovers who brought fantastic food to our brunch today." To the club members who couldn't come today, for whatever the reason, we missed you. We are glad that some of our Village Vets were also able to hear our guest speaker. Jason Morgan was very inspirational and everyone enjoyed hearing the story of his heroic efforts, and the role his dog and Canine Companions for Independence in his recovery and ongoing work to help others." Nominations for the slate of board members were submitted and accepted by the members present: President - Ellen Kippel; Vice President - Dan Golebiewski; Treasurer - Dolores Dowdle and Secretary - Karen Hastings. The voting will take place at the annual Membership Meeting on Nov. 9. The Pet Lovers Club will again have a table from 8 am to 1 pm at the OHCC Annual Flea Market on Sat., Sept. 21. This is a place to donate items for pets that we will give to the Humane Society. Clean, used towels and sheets are always welcome. Unlike the donation bin at the dog park, we can also accept pet food. We will be setting up the table starting at 5 pm on Fri., Sept. 21. People can bring their items either Friday evening or Saturday morning, starting at 8 am. Pet Lovers Club Yiddish Club Chai, Yiddish Clubbers! I'm happy to report that we received very appreciative thank you notes from the three recipients of our donations, and the funds will be put to good use. After previewing the film sent to us by the Yiddish Book Center, we decided to show their film about an artist/poet/activist at our August program and the film and the discussion following, led by Don Kent, were much enjoyed. The Yiddish Club will be dark in September, but gathering on Monday night, Oct. 21, for a talk by Dan Schwimmer about the Middle East. Dan has been very involved with AIPAC for years, and gives thoughtful responses to your questions. Come! Participate! Mingle! Have a nosh! Also, very important! At the October meeting, we will vote on the Yiddish Club slate of officers for 2020. Happy to report that Joann Bush, our terrific secretary, will be continuing in that job. Don Kent, our VP in charge of programming, has a lot of program ideas and promises to be helpful along the way. Let's keep the good times rolling. Be sure to mark your calendar for the Oct. 21 meeting and for Sun., Dec. 22, for our luncheon, installation of officers, and super entertainment. The food will be delicious, and the program will be fun. Meanwhile, gey gezunterheit! Lainy
