Email the DooWop Club at ohdoowopclub@gmail.com or check our web page on OceanHillsCountryClub.com under Clubs, and ROCK ON! Village Line Dancers Doo Wop Village Squares The biggest reason our students become good dancers so quickly is our caller, Jim Randall. Jim runs our Tuesday classes, as well as calling for our Wednesday dances. While the square dancers have to learn over a hundred different calls, they do not have to learn dance sequences. The caller leads the dancers using the steps they have learned. In addition to his being a great caller, we also enjoy Jim's singing. Jim has been a square dance caller since 1973, and has been the Village Squares caller since 1993. Jim started calling while flying in Asia for Continental during the Vietnam war. After retiring from Continental, Jim and his wife, Lexie, continued to be very involved in the square dance community, including owning Petticoat Junction, a square dance clothing store, in Escondido. These days, he spends his non-calling time volunteering, collecting food donations from various retailers, as well as spending time with his family. Please check out our website at http://ohccvillagesquares.wix. com/villagesquares. Along with a monthly calendar of events, there are also links to other club dances in the area, videos of all the dance moves the students are learning, pictures and videos of our club events, and even a video of Sam, the square dancing dog. Any questions, please contact our president, Pete Cannon at OHCCVillageSquares@gmail.com. Join the fun! Learn Cha-Cha and Salsa! September is all about the Cha-Cha, a Latin dance with lots of energy and hip gyrations sure to put a smile on your face. October's focus is Salsa, another popular Latin dance. Line Dance Class - Mondays: Line dance is a fun way to exercise. The line dance class gives singles an opportunity to dance solo at the monthly dances and couples a chance to reinforce the steps without trying to lead/follow a partner. Tai Lien, OHCC resident and club member, volunteers to teach our line dance class. We meet in Abravanel Hall from 4:45 to 5:30 pm. Free for Ballroom Dance Club members. Membership is $10, pay at the front desk. Lessons for Partners - Wednesdays: Ryan Lockhart and Danelle Newman, Area Dance Directors for Fred Astaire Dance Studios, teach our weekly classes. We meet in Abravanel Hall. Beginners are 3 to 4 pm and Intermediate from 2 to 3 pm. It is $5 for club members, $7 for non-members. Pay at the door Dance Parties - Second Friday of the Month: Our July dance, celebrated America and America's role in the world. Everyone dressed up in red, white, and blue. The most patriotic at each table took home the beautiful floral centerpieces. Tai led a line dance to We are the World and inspired each of us to make the world a better place. Dancing to live music on our first-class Abravanel Hall dance floor is a treat you won't want to miss! Please put a check in the Ballroom Dance envelope at the front desk for $12.50/member and $15/ non- members.
