This month, we are screening members' requests. This is your chance to catch up on two small films from past years that you might have missed when they were originally released. Our first monthly screening, on Sunday, Sept. 8 at 6 pm, is the film Amelie (France 2001, 2 hrs. 2 min., English subtitles). Here is a brief description from IMDb.com: "Amélie is a story about a girl whose childhood was suppressed by her father's mistaken concerns of a heart defect. With these concerns Amélie gets hardly any real life contact with other people. This leads Amélie to resort to her own fantastical world and dreams of love and beauty. She later on becomes a young woman and moves to the central part of Paris as a waitress. After finding a lost treasure belonging to the former occupant of her apartment, she decides to return it to him. After seeing his reaction and his new found perspective - she decides to devote her life to the people around her." Our second monthly screening, on Sunday, Sept. 22 at 6 pm, is the film Stranger than Fiction (USA 2006, 1 hr. 53 min., English). Here is a brief description from IMDb.com: "Everybody knows that your life is a story. But what if a story was your life? Harold Crick is your average IRS agent: monotonous, boring, and repetitive. But one day this all changes when Harold begins to hear an author inside his head narrating his life. The narrator it is extraordinarily accurate, and Harold recognizes the voice as an esteemed author he saw on TV. But when the narration reveals that he is going to die, Harold must find the author of the story, and ultimately his life, to convince her to change the ending of the story before it is too late." All of our screenings are followed by lively discussion about the film. We'd love to have you join us. The Lodge Theatre has very limited seating, so if you're interested in our screenings, come early. We hope to see you there. Please note that all films announced are subject to availability. Your vet will be asking lots of questions as he gets to know you and your pet, but it's important for you to ask questions as well. The more you ask, the more knowledge you will gain, which can only help you to become a better pet parent. Is my pet at a healthy weight? Ask if your pet is within the appropriate weight range for her breed, size, and stature. If there is a problem, you can work together to solve this issue. Is my pet getting enough exercise? Exercise is important to maintain a healthy body weight, but some pets have a lower ability to tolerate exercise than others. Your vet can tell you what kind is best for your pet and how much is appropriate Could I be providing a more appropriate food? The quality of your pet's diet is directly related to his total health and wellness, so it is important that you feed him the best pet food you can consistently afford. Is that (insert odd behavior here) normal? If your pet has recently started to exhibit an unfamiliar behavior, discuss with your vet to make sure it isn't a sign of a developing health problem. Does my pet need a dental cleaning? If left untreated, dental disease can lead to other more serious health complications; so ask how often oral checkups should take place. Does my pet need a blood or urine test? Most checkups do not include these tests unless the pet is showing signs of some form of disease. These tests might be beneficial to make sure your pet is healthy, especially for senior pets. Regular blood tests will also give your veterinarian a baseline to compare against over time. What are these lumps and bumps? It's not unusual for lumps and bumps to develop as pets age. However, unusual skin changes can also be an indication of cancer. Point out any new lumps, bumps or strange moles that have appeared since your last visit, to determine if a biopsy is warranted. How can I better care for my pet? There could be something simple that you aren't doing which might be very beneficial for your pet, but you'll never know unless you ask.
